Re: Radio replacement suggestions

Might check the wireing around the mic jack. Sometimes a wire shield or loose wire can ground out part of the jack and you lose either transmit or receive depending on which part is grounded. Or you could have a broken wire in the soldered connections. Be worth checking before spending money on a ra...

Maxmax Don't see where you are located? Could make a difference as to suggestions of 170's for your situation. Are you located in high country or low country?

Bought a factory new Lycoming engine in the winter of '80-81' and it came with a new alternator installed as standard equipment.

Mud Daubers

Just aquired a wing from the east coast and when it was opened up we weighed 12.8 pounds of mud dauber nest. Probably another pound or two of pulverized dirt from nests we didn't weigh. Wonder how many of your stateside planes have gained 20 or 30 pounds or more of weight over the years????

Re: Flying heavy

Don't know about you folks, but at 300 agl I only have 20 degrees flap. I only pull full flaps when the landing is assured if the engine should quit. Slips like any other part of flying should be practiced untill you know how to handle them, heavy, light, in between. Same as practicing what to do if...

Re: Flying heavy

Don't forget that if you are high on short final you can do a slip. Loose a lot of altitude in a short distance without gaining airspeed

Re: SEB09-3A & SEB09-5A

Seems to me that some years back there was a similar deal on the floats. Everybody was suposed to change to the new foam type floats and not long after they had to be replaced because the foam acted like a sponge and sank. Sounds like somebody is recycling the same song and dance as before.

Re: Lycoming O-340 Engine

A friend and I were looking into this engine as a possibility for his Cub. Anyway this seems to be the most informative site found so far http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycoming_engines You can get the history and the differences between the O320 to the IO390 four cylinder engines

Re: Obtaining warranty service

Are you sure you read the AD right? I could be wrong ( don't have it in front of me ) but the way I read it was that if the cylinders did not crack in the first 350 hours then they were good to go to tbo. In other words if they were going to break they would do it in the first 350 hours. Also didn't...

Re: Headliner Bows ?

Think George hit it without intending to. Might try a auto or truck junkyard, used to be some antenna's that were 4-6 feet or more long that would make dandy bows. Lots of spring but hard to kink.

Re: Gill Battery class

You guys have me wondering. Does being in a "Hot" climate affect battery life? My current battery has been in use since '98' and I had one in the other plane that lasted over 10 years after I patched a crack in one cell (as directed by a fellow who rebuilt batteries). No special maintenanc...

Re: 76" prop on a 180HP

Do not cut it if it is good. I have a 74" with less than 50 hours since overhaul and new 'B' hub. It is in use but would consider a trade for the 76" if it is close to equal condition. If that is what you want??? Now if you can come up with one with the 8477-4 blades I'd perk up a bit more.

Re: Spins & Stuff

1976 Mariposa CA Instructor would only do spins in one of the two c150's, didn't want to tumble the gyros in the second plane.
