Re: Low Oil Pressure
I have another point of view relative to Bruce’s opinion. If there’s any oil pressure AT ALL… say 5 psi…then the bearings will be fine. It’s only necessary that oil be present to prevent dry bearings to lubricate and cool them. This is based upon what i’ve been taught at automotive and aircraft eng...

Re: Low Oil Pressure
I would check the pressure relief valve. I had two instances where a small piece of carbon was lodged under the valve seat. Low oil pressure fixed immediately I removed it. My O_300 ran at 30 idle, close to the redline all the time at RPM, at any temperature, for the 1000+ hrs I ran it. It had 2000 ...

Re: Got her home.
Thanks for the welcome gentlemen. I have no previous time in the 170. Flew in the back of L-19s as a kid with my dad. I have flown various types of tail draggers, Dh-82a, PT-26, Fleet Canuck, Extra 300, Maule M5 and still fly the three in the above photo. The grass strip we fly them from is 2300’ a...

Re: Building a glove compartment (box)
I just built a box for my 1956 B. The door was there, but had been screwed shut and the Vaccuum regulator and stall horn had been mounted directly behind the door. The width and height are defined by the opening. I built it as deep as I could, with the stall horn mounted on the back and the regulato...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
Richard, Looks great modern yet very period. ........... This probably borders on the insane to put this much money in an old taildragger but I plan to keep it a long time, so... I have seen this before lots of money spent on and old taildragger with the intent of keeping it a long time...............

McFarlane make a gauge, and most shops would have one I think?
My understanding is that this is a big job, with some wing skin removal?

Do make sure that all the rollers are free and lubricated.

Re: Original Cessna logbooks
Thank you for sharing about your father. A full life. I love that he started and finished with models. I suspect it will be the same for me, but a lot less impressive in the middle.

Re: O-360 install
I went from a stock 170B to a Sportsman and then to an 80x42. Both produced noticeable improvement, and at sea level with half tanks it was a Hotrod. At 10k plus DAs it required a lot of careful planning. Totally practical but I never felt comfortable without at least 2,000 ft of runway at altitude....

I just weighed my conversion at 1440, 37.2”. 66 lbs from my old weight. A composite prop would help, and a modern panel.

Re: O-360 install
Great. Look forward to it. In general were you happy with the DelAir kit? I have have good paperwork for 337, testing and approvals on the 26" goodyears if helpful. Although, not sure how you roll (so to speak) in Canada. I ran through a pair of the GY 26's. You might appreciate double pucks. ...
