Re: Blocking N number from flight tracking websites

well it's been probably 15 years since I filed IFR with the 172 so not too worried about anyone tracking that. but we use flightaware and sites like it a lot at work, makes it easy for me to see when our planes are up on projects in the US (kind of Big-Brother-ish, but in this case Big Brother is me...

Re: ECI cylinders revisited

good demo George. I found that same situation on one of our C340's after our shop hadn't been looking hard enough at the fittings (I was no longer in the shop by then) - problem being that the inboard fairing which is riveted to the fuselage can't be normally removed for inspections, but water does ...

Re: Cessna Seat Restraint

I did both my seats with this kit, got one free and dealer cost for the other (our shop is a Cessna service center), but I installed them myself. One of the inertia reels was defective so we replaced that kit with another. doesn't take very long at all, and they are completely unobtrusive once you h...

Re: carburetor overhaul, exchange, or repair

or if the carb is otherwise OK you could buy a gasket kit (I put in kit # CF16-653 a couple years ago, but I don't have a parts book handy to see if it fits your particluar carb), Spruce current price on that kit is $37.70

Re: help may be coming

I don't agree with the whole "self certify" driver's license medical, because most folks aren't honest with themselves about their level of health. (Why, I myself am the picture of youth, and while my kid likes to brag about his six-pack I can similarly brag about my 18-pack!) There has to...

Re: Unwelcome Visitors in the Cockpit

I had a mouse drop down from behind the panel and run up the inside of my pantleg once just at rotation in a Twin Comanche. I have since considered that successful takeoff one of my greatest aerial achievements :D

Re: C145/O300 Cam-Crank timing

I always mark the proper teeth/timing marks with a red marker prior to assembly. Makes it easier to have "one last" easy visual check before buttoning things up to ensure better sleep.

Re: Measuring seat rail wear

your gauge is pretty foolproof John, as long as the aluminum isn't rounded from use at the edges of your step then it'll work great. I think the McFarlane guage does the same thing, but their illustration is wrong - every hole they show would fail it seems. If their guage's "pin" and the s...

not sure what redneck method to pop beer caps off y'all use down there, but up in my neck of the prairie the preferred method makes use of the big belt buckle you won at a rodeo

Re: Dry Dry Dry say a prayer for rain

we need to pipe water down to TX from ND, can't use the Missouri River as that is flooding all the way down. 2.6" at my house yesterday in Fargo. my pilots in Minot ND are in the evacuation zone and the water is just now topping the dikes there, NWS is talking another 6-8ft higher yet. 20% crop...

Re: Loose Throttle Friction Lock

if a cable is sticky and not visibly kinked or warn, or run next to exhaust to harden/melt the plastic liner, it can be disassembled partially and lubed with Mouse Milk (my fave, though Kroil would probably be good too). Really though if it's really old then replacement is the answer so you don't ha...

Re: The C170 Assoc Red-Green Show

I would love to try to help the noble cause and say that RED airplanes are faster. But I have never noticed any real hint of excessive speed from the family aerochine, so I cannot really help the cause there. Maybe it's that draggy thing hanging out under the engine...

Re: Don't try this at home....

someone should jump on that marketing bandwagon and make little nitrogen spray nozzles to bathe the OUTSIDE of each tire since that half of the tire area wouldn't otherwise be protected from the evils of oxidation etc. then you can sell N2 fillups for the tank in the car at gas stations, the possibi...
