Re: Always carry a spare if you have one

Many years ago, I broke the tailwheel axle on my Maul tailwheel while landing at a very rural airport at night. The Maul axle is only supported on one end and I don't think anyone is still flying 170,s with Maul tailwheels. Anyhow, the next morning we found my tailwheel along the runway. Nothing had...

Re: Mort Brown headed West...

Thanks for posting this George. Carolyn and I talked extensively with him at the Branson convention and he was a very interesting and extremely knowlogable person. He will be missed in the aviation world.

Re: HOT HOT HOT

Well it is finally raining here. The rain started about an hour ago (about 2 PM Sunday the 4th) and is the first drop of rain we have had in over a month.

Re: HOT HOT HOT

My brother called yesterday from Austin where he lives and said that it hit 112 there. I asked if that was actual temperature or heat index and he said he thought that was the actual temperature. It has been over a month since we have had a rain here and all of the area is fast drying up. The only g...

Re: Aviation "Code of Ethics"

Like Ole Pokey, we used to often land on turn rows or in open fields to visit various farmer friends or just to have a break while flying. I was never told to leave or had anyone complain. That was the flying norm in Mississippi during the 60's and 70's. I am not now flying, but, in recent years I w...

Another B 17 Lost

I read yesterday that a B 17 suffered an inflight wing fire and was unable to make it back to the airport. The plane made a successful emergency landing in a field but was burned to a total loss. None of the seven persons aboard were injured.

Were there any Cessna 170's damaged at Sun and Fun in yesterday's storm?

Re: First Plane

I purchased my first plane, a 1949 170A N9027A, in 1974, I was 33 at the time. At the time we lived in Greenville, Mississippi and my brother lived in Memphis, Tennessee. I had restored a 1949 Studebaker Starlite Coupe for him when he still lived in Greenville. Whenever we were going to fly to Memph...

Re: gear and tires

I had 800 x 6 tires on my 180 and often landed on rough and unimproved fields ie;farm fields, and never had any problem.
