Re: Compass Correction Card
Another thing to keep in mind is that the magnetic pole has been moving quite a bit the last few years. So if your compass rose has not been updated recently it could be off some, depending where you are on the globe. A number of runway numbers have been changed to keep them within 10 degrees of mag...

Re: STC Tailwheel 172 Conversion
30 some years ago saw a cracked tail cone on a 52B with the early squared TW bracket. The crack was forward of the bracket itself, not the bracket that cracked.

Re: Radio replacement suggestions
Been a lot of years but I have the Icom 200 and it is wired for intercom through a switch that switches from radio to intercom. Flipped one way is radio and the other is intercom. Also the push to talk switches need to be wired right for the system to work. I remember that the advice I got from a ra...

Re: peformance with the 180hp
The 170 Asso. has a chart by Avcon that gives fuel burn for the Lycoming O-360 with differing combinations of altitude, mp, and rpm.
I sent it in a few years ago and assume it is available. If not, pm me with your address and I'll send a copy of my original.

Re: Question for 180hp 170 owners or folks familiar w/AVCON
Don't have the paperwork in front of me, but, the stc requires the electric fuel pump ( in addition to the engine driven pump ) and it is to be turned on for takeoff and landing. Probbly one of those cya required by the FAA. In actual practice the engine functions fine without any pump. The engine r...

Re: Cessna 170 Purchase.
If you are going to be operating in the central Oregon area where the low country is 5000 msl and the moutains go up from there, you woud never regret getting more power up front. If you go the Lyc O 360 I would suggest the A1A with the hollow crank. That lets you have the option of either a fixed p...

Re: corrosion hole in firewall
I have found that you can almost eliminate battery corrosion by preventing any contact of the battery itself from any nearby metal. Wood, plastic, rubber, fiberglass all seem to work. I first noticed this on my commercial fishing boat, the batteries were in a fiberglassed wood box and never had any ...

Re: spreading ashes
It helps to have a helper, but I have done it alone. The main thing to remember is to NOT let the container open untill it is aft of the window opening. If you put your arm out at anything close to 90 degrees to the plane the inside of the cabin will be a swirl of whatever you are dumping. But if yo...

Re: Fuel Caps
I put some Fuel lube on my gas cap gaskets over a year ago and they still work great. Do not stick like they used to, and can get them on and off by hand without a cheater. Something to consider if your caps are tight and hard to get on and off.

Re: Oil Temperature Probe Nut
Remembering some more bits and pieces. As I remember my A & P at that time wondered if the Nut or threaded bushing was broke or made that way and actually came up with a new one and it was just as crude looking as the old one. Looked like it was cast in two parts and then threaded and bored but ...

Re: Oil Temperature Probe Nut
Not sure, but you guys might want to slow down and take another look. Seems like we've been down this road before. Or maybe just me. But I think that nut is made that way, been a lot of years, but know I have seen that two piece nut before. Might have been on the stock '52' B I had with the O 300; s...

Re: Slip with full flaps in a B model
My experience with the '52' 170B is that it will land shorter light, than the later models with equal passenger load. Used to really get a kick out of having a proffessional pilot as passenger and on short final start pulling back on the yolk and flap handle at the same time and touching down just a...

Re: High Cyl Temps
Been my experience that the spark plug gasket type sensors will give a different reading each time they are moved to a different position on the same plug. I always tried to put them back in the same position as before the plug was removed. But if someone else installed the plug ( annual sometimes )...
