I have carpet on half of our basement floor. We went the tack strip and pad route and have had no problems at all after 16 years. The concrete was sealed but not painted. The pad was "lightly" glued down by the installers. That half of the basement is the teenager suite which the oldest ch...

I'm a fan of the Concorde RG batteries. I've used one in the 172 for about three years and have never had a problem. I have the XC version but don't feel that it is necessary unless your battery is in the back. The supplier didn't have the standard version when I needed one so that's why i got the X...

Re: Wheel pant brackets

I have a set of wheel pant brackets that came with my '55 170B. Might be willing to let them go to someone who has no brackets that has wheel pants. I may be interested in the wheel fairing brackets for my 172 conversion. I have the wheel fairings but no brackets. Let me know the condition and pric...

Gman,

We had this same problem with an Ercoupe earlier this year. The intake valves and guides were excessively worn. I would recommend that you pull the intake elbows off and see which ones have oil in them. You could probably tell by taking the intake manifolds off as well.

Hope this helps!

I did some investigating of the Koppers propeller after reading about it in another post about engine conversions. Below is an excerpt from the Koppers T.C.D.S. that eludes to some sort of hydraulic pitch control used by the F200-H propeller that the 170 type certificate specifies. Note 1 says that ...

Just to add a little perspective to Richard's comments, I have repaired my Prop Guard on the tips twice and replaced all of it only once in seven years (450 hours). Keep in mind the first six years I had a nose gear, and I fly off of paved or grass strips almost exclusively.

I hear what you're saying Bruce. The issue for me personally is that I don't care for the bumps and honestly I don't need the extra power 98% of the time. As for the costs, since I can do all of the work myself I tend to think about only what I want the end result to be, not how much financial sense...

I was curious about the O-320 as well. Would it fit in the original cowl? I know that it is narrower than the O-360 but not sure if it will fit without the bumps. My O-300A is at TBO but currently runs very well. The high OAT climb performance is somewhat less than impressive however. The Continenta...

Hi Frank, I have Prop Guard on my 172 and am quite pleased with it. There are a couple of issues however. First, it will not stick to spray can paint. Your prop should be painted with epoxy paint (including the tips) recommended by the prop manufacturer. Second, it is there to protect the prop as a ...

I'm curious, does the gearbox have theP-Ponk modification or is it stock.

Not sure about the studs going through the sump. We did have an Ercoupe in the shop last summer that leaked oil out of the carburetor. Turned out the intake guides were worn allowing oil to leak back into the induction pipes and out through the carburetor.

Hope this helps!

Hi Brian, Are you talking about the control yoke universal joints and bushings that are in the panel? If so, I got the teflon bushings from Wag-Aero. They came with the STC documentation. Try this link for info on the universal joints: http://www.cessna170.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=817&highligh...

I put them on my 172 conversion just last month. I like them but I don't think they were worth that much money for the way I use the airplane. I could have bought a lot of avgas and still been having fun. We put them on our 180 horse Super Cub and there was a much more noticeable change in flight ch...
