Looks like MT has come out with a composite constant speed STC'd for O-360 170's and 172's. anyone done this yet or had experience with these props?

no. mag issues grounded me for the weekend, so I packed up the family and we rented an rv and drove out.

That was actually a 175 TD that competed.

Here's a couple of videos from the Fly-in. I'd guess winds were down the runway at about 15kts. Neat planes and great people. The "carbon cub" is an experimental with 200hp I think. http://picasaweb.google.com/chgates2/ValdezFlyIn2007 The orange cones in the videos are set up 100' apart.

George,

I think your explaination makes total sense. That's why I was so suprised to see the damage from my unfortunate experience (long story that does not include a groundloop) contained entirely to the gearbox.

Jim, I have the Bolen conversion on my 172 which was done in the early 90's before I bought the plane. My plane has tension springs and I don't know why yours is different, but I was able to adjust alignment by swapping/flipping shims. A couple of weeks ago someone actually answered when I called Av...

Shawn,
I'm planning on a couple of turn-around trips down to Slowdotna on Monday and Wednesday for business (wx permitting). let me know if you need that prop or any other parts hauled to or from Anchorage. I'd be glad to help.

My radios and ELT are right of ceterline, and there's been a spar repair (less than 1 lb) on the right wing. The left wing has not been repaired that I can tell. It did have a large critter nest almost filling a whole rib bay (no critter, fortunately) that we pulled out by the handful when we had th...

Any ideas why so much? I've got the opening window, battery, and articulating seat on the left, but it can't be that much, can it?

I pm'd you about this, but would like to see what others think. I was speculating that with your '61 year model the swept tail may have less rudder authority on the ground in the propwash, especially compared to your cub or your friends 180. depending on how bad it is, it might just be one of those ...

she's finally together and in the air!

it only took 1 day to take her apart, 8 years to pay for repairs and new engine, and 4 months to get her back together.

weighed in at #1256. :D

I just had a bad deal with the carburator on a Titan overhauled engine. We've just installed an O360 that was overhauled in 1999 and never taken out of the crate. We did our first leak check run up last week and the mixture had no effect, (no cut off at full lean.) I took the carb in to a shop here ...

Snow already on the mountains in Anchorage... We put the Reiff on my dad's tri-pacer this last winter. Worked great down to negative temps and I think cost a bit less than the Tanis system. We leave it plugged in all the time (electric included with the tie-down) and unscrew the oil dipstick t...

Vacuum pump with O-360 conversion?

I'm considering switching from the dual venturis to a vacuum pump with the Avcon O-360 conversion I'm working on. I'll be doing minimal light IFR work once in a while, but we do see occasional light icing up here even in VFR conditions, so I'm worried about the venturis. Are the newer dry vacs consi...
