Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

George, No offense taken. We just have different opinions about how we choose to protect our aircraft from wind damage. The fact that we all choose to do something is what is really important. My primary gust lock is my hangar. That being Said, my York gust lock may be different than what others hav...

Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

Rather than make something from twine that wraps around a light, I just purchased a real gust lock. It seems foolish to risk damaging your $40,000 airplane when for $200 you can purchase a quality gust lock.

Re: Fuel Scan FS 450

I thought I'd pass this along for those who are interested in adding a fuel flow instrument. Pacific Coast Avionics has the JPI FS 450(G)on sale for $480. If purchased before 12/31/10 you will also receive a $100 rebate from JPI. I've got one on the way (cant forget to get the airplane something for...

Re: Boeing Stratocruisers

Dick...we have that in common - I flew the DC-8 for World, circa 1981-82. Later the DC-10 and 727. When were you there? Sounds like the LOGAIR years. You flew the B-29 as F/E? Were'nt the throttles reversed since you rode backwards? I wish I had been around when OAK was the center of the non-sched ...

Re: Second Artificial Horizon Project

Also while the D-6 claims to "fit in a 3-1/8" hole"...in fact it does not when the false-panel/overlay is considered. It would only fit a 3-1/8" hole if no overlay panel is installed. The D-6 would also require mounting a non-standard Pitot tube. I was thinking the D-6 could be ...

Re: Second Artificial Horizon Project

George, Since you are going down the path anyway.... If you plan on keeping the antique horizon anyway, have you considered installing a Dynon D-6? It would fit in the same size hole, provide completely redundant air data, and probably be cheaper. (You could utilize the “flush mount” option and ...

Re: Total Re-Wire

I've completely wired or re-wired several aircraft and I would also recommend a copper bus bar. (If you have access to a Boeing type bus strip that would be even better see attached photo.) Running crimped terminals in series is just asking for problems in my opinion. Additionally, with that type of...
