Re: Part number needed- tail bracket

Every time I slip the airplane that bracket comes to mind - amazing that it holds the vertical stabilizer in place.

Re: Heritage Trophy!

Bruce - when I help my friend out polishing his airplane, I find "wax on - wax-off - Jack Daniels - wax on - wax off - jack Daniels" works best for me.

Re: Enjoying Los AltosCA

From SQL you are close to several very nice destinations. KHAF - Halfmoon Bay is just over the coastal hills West of SQL. A great place for breakfast at the 30 Cafe, or a short walk into town where there are several great little restaurants around the harbor - this time of year may be a problem. Sou...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170

Just one more thing Buzz - it's late and I'm bored. Departing Reno in the afternoon, i.e., 6000 MSL and 80 F+ will produce a Density altitude of close to 9000 ft. I couldn't find the service ceiling listed anywhere in the Owner's Manual, but I suspect it is most probably 14,500. So, if you begin wit...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170

Buzz, My undertsanding of the takeoff performance figures reflected in the Owner's Manual are based on clearing a 50 ft obstacle. Although the first notche of flaps may get you off the ground sooner, it is your rate of climb that is most affected by the flap sitting. At Reno, with the possible excep...

EGT Split left vs. right

I have the two needle EGT. The probes are mounted toward the rear of the right and left exhaust. I have noticed that during climb - at full throttle - the right EGT reflects cooler temps than the left EGT, the split is about 120 degrees. If I retard the throttle a click or two during climb the two E...

Try running a few tank fulls with TCP mixed in the fuel, assuming you are burning avgas.

Re: Aviation "Code of Ethics"

I suspect those who do the low pass fly-bys over Pvt fields are afraid their airplanes might be impounded if they landed without prior authorization. I am not aware of a pvt field owner ever actually impounding an aircraft - not sure how it would be done in the first place - but, there are rumors of...

Re: Lower Cowl Lip size

I purchased my 170B from an individual living in Phoenix. He had tried a number of things to assist in reducing oil temps during the Arizona summer temps - including a sea plane lip. He had manufacturued at 2 & 1/2" lip, drilled holes along the original lip and installed the so-called sea p...

Re: Recommended technique for backing into tiedown spot?

Fearless - I have the tail wheel tow bar Bruce refers to. I use it regularly to pull my 170 into the hangar - no problems so far been using it for over five years. When I purchased the airplane the previous owner had rigged a rope with a fastener on one end and a 6" dowel on the other. He just ...
