Gapless Piston Rings
Anyone have experience with gapless piston rings. I've heard of a few Franklin engine owners using them with just a log book sign off. I heard that a DER reviewed them and indicated they are a minor modification that does not require a 337 or STC.

Good points on the Stinson. The Stinson is similar to the 170, but it is much better on rough turf fields than the 170, it also climbs better and is about 10 mph faster. Generally it will get there faster than the 170, mostly due to the faster climb speed to altitude. The Stinson is more solid on th...

Re: Trip from Idaho to North Carolina
Thanks for all the great adice on cross country routes. We got it done, the 170 is in North Carolina. The route we ended up taking was south from Boise to Mequite NV and then picked up I-40 on the other side of the Grand Canyon to around mid Arkansas. From there we headed south to outrun a strong co...

Long Cross Country in a 170A
It looks like we be moving/relocating from Idaho to Wilmington, NC. After looking at the various routes and the time of year, the best route appears to be south from Boise to Saint George, UT then pick up I-40 around Winslow AZ to Memphis, TN then pretty much so direct to ILM. Are there places along...

Wendover UT/NV
If you have time, Wendover was where the crew trained to drop the first A-bomb, they have a walking tour of the facilities. We got weathered in there once, spent some time wondering around the place, they have fuel and a free casino taxi into town if your looking for food. But no rental cars in town.

Leaking exhaust values can also be cured sometimes by reseating the exhaust valve in place. You remove the rocker arms and springs. Attach a piece of poly tube to the valve stem. Use a mild valve compound on the valve seat and turn the valve by hand against the seat using the tube. You can also spee...

Sure, stop in/by if your in the area. Yes - McCall is a small town with traffic issues and has become a very popular weekend getaway. Land prices have skyrocketed, small lots on the lake are pushing 7 figures, lines at restaurants, lots of growing pains there. Urban growth has arrived in some parts ...

Our strip 17ID is located 2/3rds of the way between Reds and Garden Valley. You most likley will fly right over our place on the way. Garden Valley is a nice strip and easy to get into. The approach is down into a wide valley with the airport in the narrows along the Payette River. The best approach...

Reds
You also need lots of tall tales to go with the beer, whiskey and camp fire. A good one to share with your cousins are bear stories. You get them worried about the bears and then they ask how do you get away from one, not being one to carry a firearm. You smile tie your shoes and say I don't need to...
