Re: Lyc IO360 upgrade

I LOVE my Lyc -360 upgrade to my '55 170B. Along with the 3-blade MT composite prop, new mounts and dynamic balancing...she purrs like a kitten and roars like a lion when power is asked for. I flew last month with a bunch of C85 and C90 and O-300 powered planes. I was happy to be the 'truck' n the g...

Re: Lyc IO360 upgrade

The MT 83" 2-blade or 79" 3-blade composite prop is now STC'd for the 170/172/175 with ANY lycoming -360 series engine conversion installed. Cost is about the same as the Hartzell TB 2-blade.

Re: Lyc IO360 upgrade

I have the DelAir O-360 conversion on my '55 170B along with a couple dozen other mods. Last week I ended up being the 'truck' to carry 4 other planes worth of gear and a very tall passenger who could not get comfy in the tandem planes. Anyway we spend two days cruising the upper midwest at 100kts. ...

Re: Interior pics

When I restored my previous 1948 C170 to 'factory original' award winning condition, I engaged a well known classic and rare auto restoration shop near me. The upholsterer there took samples of the old original fabrics in the plane and sent them to a service that identifies the sample and provides l...

Re: My '55 170B Project

Cessna Flyer magazine has featured my bird on the cover for the April issue. Here is a link to a copy in my Dropbox folder (file size too big to attach here):

Re: Atlee Dodge Seats (upholstery)

This is the shop in Palmer AK that did my seating. I stripped all the metal support stuff off, cleaned, painted and covered the seat frames with ceconite and dope. http://www.sportaircraftseats.com/sport ... /Home.html

Re: Rudder cable replacement

I installed my new rudder cables while the tail was still off. There are two-piece split formica barrells inside the most rear bulkhead cavity that are installed after the cable is inserted and the only way to get to them is from the top with the tail off. Some of the 170B models also had that goofy...

Re: Interior pics

I went for the simple utility look and feel. Removed all the spring supports, blasted and re-painted all frames, then made support using glued and heat shrunk wing fabric. The upholsterer http://www.SportAircraftSeats.com made all the padding and covers. His shop is in AK. He can make the covers and...

Re: Hull Insurance Value

After a complete rebuild with all new parts and engine, I had $125k of documented hard costs into my plane. I was able to get an agreed upon 'stated value' of $125K supported by pics, detailed equipment list and invoices sent to the underwriters prior to their agreement. I would not sell it for less...

Re: Looking for correct drawings for AWB 2500 Skis

So it is a problem that is intermittent??? I first plumbed my valve body wrong, but that was evident on the first try ;). My pump says 3000 psi. I found it interesting the design for the valving made it 'self bleeding' if that makes sense.

http://youtu.be/Qhuj5ig6hJ4 I got mine installed and tested. They work great...but temps soared into the 40s and snow turned to slush :(. These are vid clips of the operation up and down. http://youtu.be/yo7W_8sMGoE The hyd lines are 1/4" stainless braided and yes, I insulated contact areas wi...

Re: Looking for correct drawings for AWB 2500 Skis

I put the one ski on just for the pics and will not have them back on for another week waiting for my hydro lines to be made. So I can not provide the measurements you need. Indeed, after MANY times of placing the pump in various positions to check for interference, then complete dis-assembly of the...

Re: Looking for correct drawings for AWB 2500 Skis

I have 8.00 tires. Do not know what the requirements are. I chuckle at weight concerns in winter...the skis will add aver 100 lbs, the pump 15, winter clothing and safety gear will add 40, winter fat will be 25...but the DA is so low, that she will still pull just about anything into the air that yo...

Re: Looking for correct drawings for AWB 2500 Skis

Here are some pics of my AWB pump and ski installation. I quick fit the right side ski to the axle just for the pics, then took it off..so no business about the fasteners :). I use SS braided, Teflon core hydraulic lines zip tied to the gear legs to connect the fittings at the gear leg shoulder to t...
