Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
Yeah that seems real steep. I'd get a second opinion on that if I were you. I would think more like $25,000 on the upper end. I did most of the leg work on mine myself, disassembled, cleaned, sent all the parts off for inspection/repair/overhaul/ect... I then hired a guy that has built a dozen or mo...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
When I did mine Tom told me I could use ether style header tank but I wasn't too eager to pull my floor up so I went with the Maule style just for ease of installation.

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
I would love to test drive your Aerocets. For know though its a stretch for me to swing these Wips even though they are almost half of new price. Someday though I would love to have a set of Aerocets. I appreciate you taking one for the team to get those approved. :) Shawn

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
Dick,I have had it on floats once a few years ago. A very generous buddy of mine let me borrow his Wipline 2100 floats for the summer. They have a 2300 lb bouyancy so it was a good match. It performed even better than I had hoped. Most of my float time before that had been in a Supercub with a 150,1...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
I don't disagree that it would be nice to have a little more fuel available. My point was that the argument is often made that because you have a bigger motor now you need more fuel capacity when you actually need it less than you did with the stock motor. I also agree that converting a 170 to more ...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
I just read my post and didn't mean to come across so anti 180. For me in my application my love is off airport flying. I need a plane that I can put a whole moose in and still operate in and out of a 500' strip or if I am empty operate in and out of a 200' strip and one that I can occasionally carr...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?
Yeah mine easily fit under my cowl too and regarding the need for bigger fuel tanks, I have better range with the IO-360 than I did with the stock motor because of how much faster it goes. I have no doubt you could find a comparable c-180 for the same or less money than doing the conversion but a st...

Rib Alignment Tool
So I have been trying to do some research on this tool and have found some youtube videos and articles written on it. Here is a link to the article http://www.generalaviationnews.com/2009/09/rib-alignment-tool-debuts/ Aircraft Spruce used to carry it but no longer does and the phone # and web addres...

Re: Landing Gear Shim
I'm assuming you had 180 gear on which is a little thicker. I have seen different thickness wedges but in most cases you can just make an additional "L" shaped shim out of some thin steel and lay it on top of the existing wedge and slide the two into place. This will take up that space and...

Re: ABW Baby Bush vs/ 400x4
Thats true Dick, for the flying that most pilots do its not nessecary. Where the fat tail wheel is needed is in soft sand or just plain soft soil, other wise its like your trying to plant corn with your tail wheel. Soils that your stock tail wheel would be sunk in all the way up to the axle the fat ...

Re: ABW Baby Bush vs/ 400x4
Before the Bushwheel tire and fork was available that was the tire everybody was running only using the Gar Aero fork. The Gar Aero forks had a terrible problem with shimmying. The geometry on the BushWheel fork is a big improvement and helped a lot with the shimmying problem. A word of caution thou...

Re: part numbers
I am searching this P/N out as well. As I recall it was for the 172 on floats. However I haven't found the P/N yet looking through my parts catalogs. I'll post it when I find it.
