Re: Landing ROUGH ICE
I sure wish we could by new gear legs.... :( Jim Hayton (360) 661-3302 has reconditioned 170 and 180 landing gear legs on hand and can also recondition yours. The process is quite involved as it involved annealing, straightening, heat treating, shot peening and an XRay but what you get is effective...

Re: It begins.....wings off
Thanks. The rudder pedals are bead blasted but not powder coated. I hate the way they look when the paint wears off and the bead blasting makes them less slippery in the winter. The flap handle will have a 6" wrap of leather stitched on where you grab it to keep it looking nicer longer. I'm not...

Re: Cowl supports
We should get in the phone at some point
I need to rebuild my cowling and I want to figure out a way to stiffen the barn doors.
My idea was to add formed stiffeners to hold it's shape as well as a way to hold is open vs flipping it over to the other side.

Seek out a local powder coating shop and put together a box of parts you're thinking about painting.
You wont be disappointed.

Re: 175 Wings
I don't know how to predict the weight but she's bare metal, the interior is very minimalist except for the front seats and door panels (we're not savages). I'll pick up some weight with the 180 legs and STOL cuff tho. And the bigger fuel tanks to feed that motor.. The 80" constant speed prop i...

Thanks. Continental IO-360, Sportsman STOL and as light as I can reasonably make it. Any luck and she will fly next year.Mapleflt wrote:Saw your pics on BCP bagarre beautiful stuff, nice polish

Re: 175 Wings
No fuel advantage but you get to carry rockets. That's gotta count for something.Mapleflt wrote:As we've all ready determined in previous post there is no fuel advantage the L-19 tanks are the same volume so nothing in it but legal mombo-jumbo

Re: 175 Wings
Would the tanks from an L-19 work, same wing isn't it and wing root fuel gauges as well They will fit and I'd bet the modifications would be similar to fitting 175 tanks. Bird Dogs had the same wings as 170's (and 172s and 175s) but BirdDogs has different flaps. L-19's are based on a 170 but there ...

No change in any cable, wires or fuel lines. They are identical less the fuel tank accommodations.gahorn wrote:... and a change in the flap cable routing, I believe.bagarre wrote:...With the 175 wings, you need electronic fuel gauges.

Re: 175 Wings
Sure. Or out of a 172 for that matter. They are all the same parts. You need to trim a rib, make a few brackets, extend the hat sections under the tank and make new tank covers....and get a 337 approved for the work which may or may not be an issue. Mine would need all that plus new top skins due to...

Re: 175 Wings
Long range tanks are the only advantage. If you can get the approval, it's a very cost effective way to get the big tanks. Very useful for big motor swaps. Structurally, there are no other differences in the wings. The trick is finding a good set of 175 wings. I've had the approval for two years and...

Re: Seat Rail Replacement
https://photos.app.goo.gl/yN7RJwQkhaBeHiBl2 I added more photos to the link that show more of the measurements. The floor is 2024-T3 0.032 38" x 35" square. I put photos of the seat rails with a ruler on them. They center on the rivets so if you make sure the center of the rail is between ...

Re: Seat Rail Replacement
The seat rails are different by an inch or so. I'll get the measurements today and post here. If you measure 11 inches along the edge of the skin to get your rail centers, you will be off by 1/8th or so because the rails are not perpendicular to the skin edge. That's what I meant by 1/8th. The measu...

Re: Seat Rail Replacement
If you look at the photo, the rails are not parallel to the edge of the floor skin. They are of course parallel to each other but the are on the floor at a slight angle. If you need an old skin as a template, I still have mine. I could make a drawing to locate the rails and big holes if that would h...
