Re: scratching my head (Magneto/EGT problem)

Thanks guys, When the engine was overhauled the rods where sent out for yellow tags and where all approved. It may be that the previous overhaul resulted in different length rods being installed to make up for valve lash. I installed factory new continental cylinders. The hydraulic units and cam wer...

Re: scratching my head

EGT probe checks out OK. I am suspecting intake valve not opening far enough leading to rich mixture and cooler temp. Valve lifting rods where all in spec but some where noticeably shorter than others. I guess you could couple that with a relatively weak spring on the hydraulic lifter and come up sh...

scratching my head (Magneto/EGT problem)

I just completed a major on my engine. First flight revealed EGTs of 1225 on all cylinders except #3 which ran about 975. CHT for number 3 and 4 cylinders match at about 300 with OAT 25 F on climb. Switching from L to R mag had no effect on the EGT. Prior to major EGT on #3 ran 1225. Seems to run sm...

Re: Alaska Bushwheels and Cleveland Double Pucks

Can you explain exactly what you did. I was interested in the same setup. What STCs are used. Is that ABW yoke installed on a Scott 3200. What are the tires and manufactures. Those tires look like they will wear better than the 26 inch ABW and are probably alot less expensive. And the drum roll, how...

Re: New Cylinders

Thanks guys, Looks like there is no clearly better product. My mechanic recently installed an ECI that immediately had a stuck valve due to misalligned guide out of the box. He refuses to touch an ECI. He tells me TCM wants about 1000 per cylinder and superior is around 940 per. I think I wil go wit...

Re: Crank and Cam failure

Well its a long story but I will make it brief. This is an alfalfa field I have landed in over 200 times. Right next to the Bighorn river. Excellent fishing. I guess I should be more clear this is an irrigated alfalfa field. I always make a pass a ten feet looking for water and that day I did not se...

Re: Crank and Cam failure

I agree with you guys on the vacum pump, my whole intention was an engine that I could find parts for. Since my last post I have located a yellow tagged crank or two for the 145 for 8000 or 10000 smackers. This was a prop strike and a new prop is in the works. So George if I where to install an 0-30...

Re: Crank and Cam failure

Bruce oh Bruce oh thank thee. It has been 4 weeks since I have flown last. If I do not fly my 170 soon I shall go crazy. My prop strike has been more of a problem than I could have imagined. With a high time engine I think it will be better to replace than OH. Depends what I can find for a replaceme...

Re: Crank and Cam failure

George, This was a prop strike so the prop must be replaced. Steve
