Old Sectional Charts

Good afternoon all! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in 2021. I'm in the final throes of battling COVID, and while it's not been awful, it's certainly not been fun. Firmly believing I was born in the wrong era, I'm fascinated with old things...obviated by my love for old airplanes among o...

Re: Flap assisted take off

Glad to see this thread take a more constructive tone. I've used the flap pop technique in other airplanes, but never (yet!) in my 170. Now I'm interested, though. Time to head out to a dirt strip and give it a try. Maybe I'll like it enough to install an EZ Flap. 8O More power to you if you have o...

Re: Flap assisted take off

Interesting that this should come up, because I did a little experiment a few nights ago with dad. My airplane is a stock ‘52. 1205 pounds per the last W&B, bone stock airplane with a 76x53 prop and 6.00x6 tires. I can count on one hand the number of STCs this airplane has with fingers remaining...

Re: New Member in CT

20 degrees is my go to landing config. If I’m too high on final, I’ll use more flaps. 40 degrees is perfect for Stuka style descents  I really like 10 flaps on takeoff in the B model, but sometimes will run zero for a long elegant takeoff. And I land 3 pointers 99% of the time. It does wheelie...

Any tips would be appreciated. It doesn’t appear that it has a part number?

Is there a source for the clear plastic covers, or are these unobtanium?

Re: Good maintenance shop for C170

Does anyone have Jim Musgrove's contact information? Also looking for recommendation for a shop that specializes in Cessna 170s and can do restoration work, preferably in the northeast but considering anywhere in the country. Thanks! Steve Noyes is in MA and specializes in Birddogs, but is a phenom...

I’d not considered, but I’m liking that idea better. I’ll research it.

Thanks, George!

Internally Lit Fuel Gauges?

Continuously ponderous though I am, I’m curious if anyone has had the same thought process as I and found a way to mount a grain of wheat bulb into the case for the fuel gauges? I have a spare set of gauges that I could easily work with and figure a way to mount them, but I’d rather not re-invent th...

Klixon CA-2

I’m in the final throes of a pretty major hip bone-leg bone ordeal with 56D and I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing as I’m crossing the finish line. I recall someone saying that replacing the grommets on the piano keys was a major pain, but I decided I wanted to do it anyway, as well as ad...

Original Baggage Compartment Liner

Hi all, Since my last request yielded a quick result, I’m hoping that I can get some traction again. I am looking for an original baggage compartment liner. Color doesn’t matter, I’m just using it for a pattern. Yes, I realize there are other options available, but I’m looking to preserve originalit...

Some instructors travel, Frank.

I’ve been going to Athens on bi-monthly trips or so for the last two months. I would be happy to fly with you if you need.
