Re: IFR Guidance Requested
1. Pilot: Let's just start with the basics - is it "too early" (i.e., at 155 hours) to even be thinking about IFR training? Not at all. 2. Equipment: I've attached a photo of 62C's instrument panel for your enjoyment. Single KX-125 nav/comm and a localizer/glideslope head. Artificial Hori...

Re: Glide Ratio
As an active glider pilot as well as 170B operator. I will say I have tested the 170B. I can confirm 67mph but it is infact 7:1 clean. If the prop is stopped it drops to 5:1 FYI. I teach cardinal speeds so 70 mph is what I teach. It is still 7:1. That is also only in the clean configuration with th...

Re: 170a flap system
If you are referencing the part numbers in the Illustrated Parts Catalog for the lengths, that is where the error is. The seaplane (stainless steel) part number is the correct length (as listed in the IPC). The one listed in the standard airplane configuration was for an earlier serial number set of...

Re: Bottom Up Brake Bleeding
Bottom up brake bleeding with a pump style oil can filled with 5606 seems to be preferred. My question to the forum is simply is there an alternate method of pushing brake fluid UP through the master cylinder? I am thinking something less than a $450.00 Snap On Pressure Pot System. There is an alte...

Re: Stump the Expert
Any guesses to where this washer goes? Four are required. Cessna wants $23 a piece for them . You'd think gold but quite sure it's made from brass. I haven't found any at a reasonable price so It looks like I'll have to make them. IMG_0342.JPG Since you received a price, I'm guessing you gave them ...

Re: Oil preferance !
I'll throw this out there, too... Seems like I've read on here before, maybe seen in on the O-300 type certificate data sheet, that running the straight-weight oil allows an oil temp redline of 240° rather than the standard 225° using multi-grade. I run Phillips 20W50 in mine and constantly run up t...

I use pretty much the same process as Aryana. Has served me well. I don't have the EGT/CHT (yet), so it is nice to know this method works as well as/better than going by EGT alone.

Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul
The blast tube is normally connected to a 1" sceet or scat hose to ram air pressure obtained from the rear baffle. I installed a 1" flange (Aircraft Spruce) on my aft baffle and routed my scat hose down alongside the oil cooler blast tube with Adel clamps. See also: http://www.cessna170.o...

Re: Buy control cables !
Hi Josh ! Can you remember how long ago that was and the costs ? Thx, the ButchPilot ! Looking at the logbooks, looks like I installed CCKT170-02G cable kit back in 2011. Their web site lists that as $2015.18 now. If you want to order that one, might be worth checking with them to ensure they have ...

Re: Buy control cables !
I went with McFarlane's galvanized steel cables for my '50 A model. The lower flap cable they provide in the kit is 6 inches too long for the serial number. After going round and round with an engineer there, they finally sent me a stainless steel version that was the correct length at no additional...

Re: Electrical issue after jump start
With a completely dead battery, an external power source was required to start. Presumably, the alternator field was excited prior to disconnecting the external power otherwise, as Bruce mentioned, the alternator could not have output any power. I have the standard generator/ammeter setup in my 170,...
