Re: What were these holes for?

Just for the record after visiting my hangar,(spelled it correctly this time) the two holes for the name plate are about 6 inches aft and about 3 inches below the ash tray holes. They are on both sides and approximately 5 inches above the three armrest attach holes. I use the terms about and approxi...

Re: What were these holes for?

The name plate was on the right side. Ash trays were on both sides. So probably ash tray. Will verify next time at the hanger.

Re: What were these holes for?

As per ghostflyer: name plate of the dealership that originally sold the aircraft. They were cast pot metal. Mine broke in an attempt to remove them for cleaning the polish residue. They now ride in the glove box.

Re: CG changes with engine conversions

Richard, Correct! My point is the main gear(where the weight increase is proposed) is forward of the CG. Adding weight forward of the CG moves the CG forward and visa versa). We are talking about a 170 where the main gear is forward of the CG? Add weight at the main gear of a 172 and the CG does ind...

Re: CG changes with engine conversions

Jim, Far be it for me to correct anyone, especially one of your integrity. However, the main landing gear on a 170 is forward of the CG. If it were not so, we would need nose wheels on our 170s. Any weight added forward of the CG will move the CG forward and vise versa. We do not know the exact hori...

Re: Interior pics

Gary, I also believe Nippaero's rear seat is original. The button pattern and fabric weave appear the same as that of SN 20472. Except 20472 is red rather than blue. Search etsy.com for vintage upholstery buttons. There has got to be some buttons in there very near to correct. Who is to know? Charlie

Re: Interior pics

Gary, Regarding the 52 model back seat, there were four buttons evenly spaced about an inch and half or so below the leather trim on the top of the backseat back. Therefore, the illustration is in error as to the number and the location thereof. At least according the example of serial number 20472....

Re: Painting Stencils

Miles, According to the old photos of Dad's 52 and the current paint job the "logo bird" points toward the "a" in Cessna. Also, I recall Dad making that stencil when he repainted the trim in 1982 and he used the left side original as the pattern. Maybe the right side had been pol...

Re: 1952 Cessna 170B Insignia Red with original interior ?

Fred,
I still have the original interior in a box in the back of the hanger. I kept it for just such a purpose! Send me a PM or email at 2811charlieatgmaildotcom.

Re: Original Interior cloth

runerider,
Is your fabric NOS? Seats or side panels? Matador Red or Serge Blue? I do not wish to jump in front of anyone, but I am in need of 1952 interior fabric.

Thanks,

Re: C145/O300 Cam-Crank timing

Thanks all. Engine was indeed out of phase by 180 degrees plus or minus a tooth. Pulled starter from subject engine and found no evidence of timing marks on crank gear. Had to pull the starter from another O300 to verify timing marks at second bolt from dowel as in Jim's photo. Marked subject gear w...

Re: C145/O300 Cam-Crank timing

Thanks guys. You stay up way to late! You are saying there is no way they could be 180 out? Is it possible a gear is marked incorrectly or incorrect for a C145 ? And Just for a sanity check, the piston should NOT go down when the exhaust valve is open nor up when the intake valve is open. Cbeyer

C145/O300 Cam-Crank timing

Is it possible to install the cam shaft and the crank shaft 180 degrees out of phase and still have the timing marks correct?

Thanks,
Cbeyer
