Re: BFR and a qualified CFI
voorheesh's interpertation of the Regs is correct. It is up to the PIC to decide what he/she wants to improve upon in the BFR and to decide upon the best CFI to provide that guidance. An example would be getting some hood time in the 170, etc rather than going around the pattern a few times doing a ...

Re: Polishing horizontal stab - How much pressure is too much?
There are many different approaches. Here is the one we use. 1.) Wash the airframe with a mixture of BonAmi, Alochol, water and Joy dishwashing liquid; polish by wiping down with clean rag with cheap baking flour if so desired. BonAmi is hard to find, but cheap; usually found in higher end grocery s...

Re: Magneto Problems
75 to 80 years ago all they had was low octane; unleaded fuel was the design basis for these early low compression engines. They did not have lead fouling problems when they decided on the mag timing, it was based on minimizing the mag drop when operating on one or the other. On later engines they s...

Re: Magneto Problems
Every engineering design is a trade off and performance tends to get better with experience. On later models Continental figured out they could get more hp and run cooler by making the change.

Dick: How are things going in Yellowpine. Have they changed the name of the road in town that was named after one of my gold mining ancestors. I noticed the webcam we installed is still showing good weather at the airport, no snow yet. We will try to stop in there next summer, and are liking the NC ...

Re: Mag Troubles Take 2
All the system checks done to date indicate that the ignition system is within specs: Sparks plugs, Harness, Ignition Switch and P-Leads all checked ok Magneto Overhauled, internal timing ok, engine timing set correctly, coil ok, new points, condensor, block, distribtor gear, oil seal, bearings If t...

The other item to check is the mixture. The mixture may be set too lean.

Re: Mag Troubles Take 2
When they overhauled the mags, did they check the coil ? Sometimes the coils go bad, it usually shows up after the mag gets hot during a mag check, but checks ok when it is cold. If the mag was full of oil it is possible that the coil has a weak path to ground. It is easy to misalign the gears when ...

Re: tanks feeding evenly
Try leveling the plane and checking to see if the ball in the turn and bank is centered. If not center it with the plane leveled, if it is slightly out you will fly with one wing low resulting in a slight flow imbalance between the tanks when flying with the flow selector on both. The fuel screens a...

Sorry George, but we don't agree with your opinions on avgas vs unleaded base stocks. Some homework - check the current avgas spec to the spec for the engine as designed. You need to demonstate that they are the same and have not changed. It is very obvious that 100LL does not meet the orginal desig...
