Craig, does the aileron gap seal tape seal the gap at the top of the wing or the bottom? how close does it come to the aileron? there are good pix of flap gap seals on the Knots2U website, but I can't find pix of aileron seals anywhere. along with the roll improvements at slow speeds, I'd be interes...

that is a fine observation there Miles, and since I am about to annual my trusty steed I will pull that plug and report my results

the crates we use often have either a wood or steel bracket to bolt the flange to, I wouldn't just bolt it to a side of the crate - if for no other reason than to isolate the crankshaft from shipping damage due to bouncing off things

I have noticed that all the TCM engines in our company aircraft (and my own O300) make more water than the Lycomings. You can tell it by looking in the fillers, by what comes out of the breathers, and by the color of the oil. The TSIO 520's especially turn their oil green, while Lycs always turn oil...

hey Miles- do you think that the increased angle of attack at higher altitudes (just to stay up there) would affect the cooling airflow significantly as well? not that the cooling inlets/outlets are at all optimized in these aircraft for any particular airspeed or altitude regimes anyway. to my eye ...

Bill's right, no reason to have that much water unless yu have really bad fuel cap seals or something - only time I ever got that much water in the gascolator was when some kids siphoned a bunch of gas out of my plane one night and left the caps off, then it rained a lot. joke was on them though, it...

Miles, your buddy's carb heat probably helps to even out the atomization between cylinders, since the intake system isn't really a balanced system. that's one reason for the big spreads normally, works the same for lots of engines unless you have tuned intakes and/or fuel injection. I can see where ...

the panel isn't loose, but either the yoke travel is misrigged or the instrument installations that exist were done wrong, so that clearance behind the panel isn't there at full travel. nothing should be interfering at all, ever, during any portion of the control travel. most of the panels of vintag...

on our research aircraft at work, when we modify them we certify them in multiple category. so when they are equipped for work they are in Restricted category, take it all off and you are in standard category. instead of an ICA sheet we use a "conversion manual", specific to each airplane ...

ahh, reminds me of the good old days in SW ND. first thing you do at quad-annual time is clean all the shotgun shells out from under the floor, sometimes they bind things up like controls. I have a friend who might be the only person ever to gear up a Cub twice, he would land places I wouldn't take ...

I got a call from a fella with the FAA concerned about my plane's registry - turns out my inlaws started to change the registration to remove my brother-in-law from it, but he never completed the process. Then they later reported the new (as they saw it) owners on a Triennial Report card. Which led ...

yup, Fuel Lube + cold = peanut butter glue use DC-4 (Dow Corning 4 dielectric grease) on the orings and you'll be fine, your mechanic should have some since that's what you use on oil filter gaskets to prevent seizing you could maybe use some light lube, like LPS-1, but it will shortly wash off in t...

considering the cyl heads and barrels are the items that warm up to operating temperature the quickest on an engine, cylinder choke shouldn't present a real problem unless you literally took off as soon as the prop was turning, kind of like when my grandma went to the store in her car one big reason...
