Re: Cessna 170A Restoration w/TLGW Cont IO-360 STC

Interesting you're thinking of removing the 185 legs for "Lady Legs". Wondering why? I'm neutral on the use of 185 or even 180 legs, I'm just curious why you'd go through the trouble to replace them.

Also why the inspection panel on the rear of the fuselage near the vertical stab?

Re: TX Solar Eclipse Fly-in Apr. 6-8

Glad to hear of the good turnout. That's a nice shot. As the eclipse passed over us I was exiting my optometrists office with my eyes fully dilated. I wished it had gotten that dark here but it hadn't and wasn't going to. It was overcast and for the most part we could not see the sun though I wasn't...

Re: Oil Leak

Remove the snap ring, pull the plug, clean out any sludge you find behind the plug. Replace the o-ring. Put some motor oil on it. Replace the plug and snap ring. Your good.

Grady Bowers 1815 MO known here as MoonlightVFR goes west

Received and note from Christi, Grady's daughter, that her dad had past on. Grady was a member of TIC170A since September of 1977. He used the log in here of MoonlightVFR. His first post here was 1/2/2005 and his last 8/4/2010. Seems like just last week he was chiming in with a question. Grady had a...

Re: Continental O-300 interchangeable parts list

There is a A&C engine interchangable parts list but this wouldn't include stuff from 0-300 era. We probably have that in our archives which you do not have access to as it appears you are not a current TIC170A member. You can find it here though: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmk...

Re: fuel tank leak

Once you attempt a chemical fix ie epoxy, and should you be successful actually getting the chemical to be sucked into the crack, you have pretty much spoiled any attempt any one would make to fix by welding because the crack would be contaminated in a way no one could clean out. Lots of times an at...

Re: Slooooooow 170b

I have observed that there are 170s that are fast with no effort, some are faster because of effort, and some are slow no matter what. And there are a lot of average examples as well. I've owned two slow 170s. I could cruise around at 105 or 110 but all the others where doing 115-120. I studied both...

Re: Door latch trouble - pull bar disconnected

Not quite sure I understand. Does the interior door handle open the latch but the handle not return to a neutral position on it's own? Or does the interior door handle not open the latch no matter what is done with it? If the first case, I doubt there is anything that you would want to do to fix the...

Re: RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll

Bruce, That's cheating! Caught me Gary. 8) Once again you have found a written procedure I've looked for but never found. Searching for the definition of static rpm finds the simple explanation it is the attainable rpm with the aircraft not in motion. I'm rarely flying in winds that matter. N...

Re: RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll

Jim, Taxi your plane to a point there is nothing blocking air-movement behind the airplane. LIke in the middle of a taxi way. I always face into the wind. Hold the brakes and go full throttle. Do not allow the plane to move. Look at the rpm developed. This is static rpm. For the McCauley 1A170 prop ...

Re: C170B Fuel Selector Valve

Thank you, Gary, That helps a lot. It is amazing how a relatively simple part can have so many ideas and procedures associated with it. I printed a copy and will be handing it to my IA/AP to use a reference. Thanks Again Jim Collins N2488D C170B 1952 Just tell your A&P NOT to follow the parts s...

I would be if I still had my 170. I have the same amount of fear in an accident the thick glass cylinder would break as I do a metal can would be dented or deformed, breaking the seal and leaking gas all the same.

I'll confirm George is correct. It is a self reseting circuit breaker for the T&B and stall warning.

Front Seats, orignal '56 172

These seats are from a '56 172 but they are exactly the same as 170 seats in every way. They will fit any model of 170. The frames look to be in good condition but do have some rust at the bottom were the frame wraps around the seat rail. But I believe that will easily clean up. If I was looking for...

Re: Door latch trouble - pull bar disconnected

Those springs are not the Cessna "improved" springs best I can tell but springs found at Hillman hardware section. You won't be alone with locally procured parts in your latch. Amazing you found the pin in the door.
