EP-420W EPIBOND applying airbrush

Doing some repair work on my Vagabond. Yes I know it's not a 170. I need to repaint the bottom of my landing gear axle tubes in situ. Wondering if anyone has used EP-420W EPIBOND sprayed through an airbrush? I know it can be sprayed through a "touch up" gun but even that is a bit big for t...

Re: Barkweave reproduced

I would call on Mike or Dillion Barron of Baron Aviation. They are 195 restorations specialists, and beside that Dillion restored a 170B to better than factory condition. I believe They had fabric made to match Dillion's 170 seats or perhaps they located some bolts of original. Either way I'll bet t...

Re: Twenty-Two Years

I took note of 60 minutes (TV show) last night with 9/11 events and like most other years, bang it hits me, it is 9/11 again. I've told this story before. 22 years, seems like yesterday I was sitting in a helicopter over Red Bank New Jersey looking at the towers as the first plane hit. I wondered wh...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

… . Many folks would not have flown a newly installed cylinder from TX to MI. …. I did not immediately fly to MI after the cyl change. After the cyl was installed, I flew the airplane overhead my field for 1.5 hrs…landed and inspected for leaks, etc. After that flight, a week later we flew to MI, W...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

https://www.csobeech.com/files/TCM-SB03-3.pdf Would most agree that this is reliable guidance for assessing and maintaining Continental Cylinders? Given the potential of low compression results during annual inspections, I would think this Service Bulletin would be of interest to owners as well as ...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

George the problem with your story is you think the Savvy method would/could have increased the compression in your case, to an acceptable level. I have my doubts it would/ could have. I know plenty of highly thought of mechanics who would have advised you to simply run the engine another 10 hrs wit...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

Doug, Savvy states: 10. If you can hear the solvent mixture squirting freely into the crankcase, the oil control ring is clear. If the propeller is difficult to turn and you cannot hear the solvent mixture squirting into the crankcase, repeat steps 5 through 9 with additional solvent. You may need t...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

Is there a written procedure for everything a mechanic does. In theory the FAA correct answer would be yes. But in the real world I'm not so sure we make theory 100 percent reality. Yes, there are a lot of documented procedures from all sorts of sources. So many in fact that a mechanic could be foll...

Re: C-170A Airforms Baffle kit on a C145-2H?

Got to be a 2H? No, it could be a mix of parts. For example 2H case halves used to repair a -2. Your engine is what the data plate says it is. Dampened cranks are found in -2 and 2H and 300A and B.

Re: Question for the Mechanics

I first heard of this on an Aeronca forum. Thought it to be an old school mechanic sort of thing. I checked with a friend of mine very familiar with all sorts of old and new aircraft engines. He told me his dad use to drain oil and run kero instead to clean out the engine. But this is different. He ...

Re: Gear Curiosity?

Geisse crosswind gear? Never heard of such a thing. Goodyear crosswind gear however is a different story. If you are running Goodyear crosswind gear, you must also be running Goodyear brakes which are not the same model of Goodyear brakes one would run without crosswind gear. I have a perfectly airw...

I've been told they, the copper asbestos, tend to deteriorate quicker that the later replacements such as the stainless and no blow readily available today. Leroy loved them and would reuse them over and over til I replaced them with no blow type. Can't say I ever used one long enough to confirm the...

Re: Rear Horizontal Bulkhead

My plane is also missing the two bulkhead reinforcement doublers shown on fig. 25-21 and 25-22. (p/n 0512118-9 and 0512118-8). Anybody out there with their horizontal stab off that could measure or photograph these parts for me? There are at least three different threads here in which guys mention ...
