Alaska Bushwheel also sells them. I think the last time I ordered one from them they were only $5 or $6.

I agree with you its not an ideal situation. However I only need to do it a few times a year. I use good cans that seal tight. I wrap them up in a big tarp just incase one does leak it doesn't get on the carpet. Then I strap them down very securely in the baggage area. I would rather have that a few...

I seriously thought about putting Harry's tanks in my plane until I got my new motor in. I actually have better range now than I did with the stock motor. There are occasions where an extra 5-10 gallons would be nice but I think for the $4,800 + Labor that the tanks cost I don't mind throwing a coup...

Do yourself a big favor and bite the bullet and exchange those wings with the factory for aluminum spar wings. The AD on those spars is written in such a way that it is extremely difficult for even new spars to pass. I know of one case where both wings failed the inspection and they were rebuilt wit...

I have done 2 baggage door installs and am about to do a third one. Dgkirk is right on, it usually takes about 2 - 2 1/2 days. The first one took me 2 1/2 days and the second one was on track to be done in 2 days until I found that the previously installed float kit was installed wrong. I ended up h...

I think you are being taken advantage of. $30,000 for an OH of a 0-300 is way out of line. It should be atleast $10,000 less. Removal of the motor should only take a couple of hours, the install of the motor takes around 10-12 hours. For $60,000 you could have easily had your choice of engine upgrad...

I started suspecting a connection to carb ice and mogas after a few years of almost exclusive use. I would usually get carb ice 2-3 times per flight hour and in extreme conditions it was almost constant, as soon as I would turn the carb heat off it would start forming again. I started noticing that ...

The oil temp is measured in the oil screen housing on the accessory case on a Lycoming. Use some self adhesive foil tape to adjust how much you want covered to get the temp up to around 180-190. The veratherms are a neat idea but it has been my experience that they have little effect on bringing the...

You might also consider Selkirks fiberglass extended baggage. It weighs a little and that will help you but the real benifit is 30 lbs back there equals the equivalent of around 50 lbs in the standard baggage area. I also moved my ELT and Strobe pack back behind the extended baggage bulkhead. There ...

What is your empty weight on your plane? Some tailwheel converted planes are very heavy when empty. For instance I flew a tailwheel converted 175 with a 180hp and constant speed prop but it performed horribly, I discovered its empty weight was around 1650 lbs I have flown several 180hp 170B's with c...
