Re: Engine data plate obliterated
Thanks guys for all the input. It seems everybody is happy with leaving my current plate on and so am I. So it shall stay right where it is. But it has been a good learning experience for me and I appreciate all the information you guys have collectively provided.

Re: Engine data plate obliterated
Thanks Bruce. I just contacted Continental and they sent me the list of requirements to get a new dataplate. It has to go through the FAA with a letter and the old plate has to be sent with the letter of request for a new data plate to Continental. OH, and they charge $300 for the new plate. Would a...

Engine data plate obliterated
Well, here is a good one...I was doing some spark plug maintenance and noticed the data plate on my engine is mostly unreadable. I will attempt to upload a picture. The plate does have the engine serial number stamped onto the plate, but not much else is readable. The serial number stamped on the da...

Engine Upgrade Availability
Before I overhaul my C-145, it seems that I remember many years ago there were a couple STCs to swap the C-145 to-I believe a 180 with or without a constant speed prop. Does anybody have any current information on that. I just want to be sure I am considering all my options. Zephyr, (very good reput...

Re: Changing from a generator to an alternater
I think switching to an alternator also requires a couple extra circuit breakers be installed too.

Electronic magneto replacement
I have a 1951 C-170A s/n 20216 equipped with the C-145 engine. I am coming up on engine overhaul time and would like to ask the membership for any thoughts on replacing one of the mags (Slick 6364s) with one of the certified electronic replacements vs standard mag replacement?
Thanks
Thanks

Changing from a generator to an alternater
I still have a generator on my C-145 in my 1951 C-170A. I am considering having the engine overhauled and would like to know what the latest guidance is for the various alternator options to use or not to use. Any current or recent comments on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Also, can I u...

Starter Replacement
I have the original pull-type starter on my C-145 in my 1951 C-170A.
I am considering having my engine overhauled and might as well switch to a new technology starter. Since there are a couple options, I am wondering what all the latest opinions and experience with changing out the starter might be?

C-145 overhaul/swap
I have begun to start thinking about overhauling or swapping my engine. I currently have a C-145 (2800 hrs TT) in my 170A, which is about half-way to TBO, but the last major was about 30 years ago. The engine is running good. Maybe a new set of cylinders soon. But since the bottom end hasn't been lo...

Fuel Gauge Removal in 170A
Well, my left fuel gauge float has apparently stopped floating. Occasionally I get a reasonable reading but for the most part it sits near empty. So I am going to try to remove the gauge to further investigate. I have drained the fuel from the tank and from inside the cabin I see 4 screws around the...

Re: Brake Line Retainer
Thank you all for the advice on my Brake Line Retainer Clip. I have asked the seller of the L-19 part for the dimensions and am continuing research into this.
