KR 87 ADF Through Argus 5000
I have just purchased a new plane with an Argus 5000 moving map that displays both the GPS and the ADF, but, not at the same time. I've figured out how to get the GPS track etc. to show on the Argus, but, so far, have not been able to get the ADF needle to show on the Argus. I can get the Argus to d...

Re: 1948 fuel selector valve
You have probably solved your re-build issue with the 1948 fuel selector valve, but, there is also a thread in the Trade-Mart portion of this web site where a gentleman is selling original 1948 fuel selectors for $250. I've purchased both the fuel selector valve and the origial gasgolator in the box...

Windshield Installer in South East
Can anyone recommend a shop that has experience replacing windshields in 170's in the South East U.S.? Mine has crazing that is getting worse with time and I'd prefer a shop that has experience, preferably one that has moved down the learning curve on this procedure a good bit. Thanks, C. Bogle N428...

Carb Overhaul & EGT Readings
Had noticed over last few month slightly greater fuel consumption and EGT readings on #5 cylinder high relative to other cylinders, especially at full power and when leaning. This higher EGT reading on #5 was a relatively recent development. Plane went in for scheduled annual inspection. A&I not...

Re: Rudder return spring
Never mind...I found the IPC online. By the way, it is the same part numbers for the 1948 as the ones listed in this thread.
Thanks,
Curt

Re: Rudder return spring
My 1948 170 is undergoing the annual inspection and my left rudder pedal return spring is broken. I'm 300 miles from my illustrated parts catalog so I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the part numbers for these springs are the same for the 1948 170 as for the springs shown in this thread? The ...

Re: Results of New Spring and Plunger
All: I replaced the spring and plunger today with new. Total cost of parts about $70, plunger being the more expensive item. New spring is shorter than original spring but stiffer. Decided to replace plunger since I was in there anyway and thought it unlikely that the plunger was not seating, but, d...

Re: Oil Pressure Bypass Spring and Plunger
All: Thanks so much for the input. Always appreciated and always helpful. Right now, I'm leaning towards the air/oil pocket in the oil pressure line and leaning away from the weak spring theory (can't completely put it away though!). I'm leaning away from the weak spring theory because when I had th...

Re: Oil Pressure Bypass Spring and Plunger
George: I do have a spin on filter adapter and no screen. Have had this phenom occur over several filters so I don't think the filter is the cause. Again, all of the symptoms go away for awhile after I have removed the spring and plunger and re-installed. If it were oil intake restriction, I wouldn'...

Re: Oil Pressure Bypass Spring and Plunger
George and Bruce: First, thank you for the response... George: The oil temp yesterday when I observed the issue once again was 160 degree F. The outside air tem was 40 degree F. The oil temp never differs when I'm seeing the low wobbly pressure and when I'm not. Also, what is the low safe oil pressu...

Oil Pressure Bypass Spring and Plunger
Folks: First, I'm not at home so don't have access to my engine parts catalog. Does anyone know the part numbers for the oil pressure bypass spring and plunger for a C145-2-2 and where I can order same? Second, here are the symptoms and why I wish to try a new spring and/or plunger: My engine has ab...

SEB09-3A & SEB09-5A
Dear Fellow Members: Once again, I have received two service letters from Cessna that I can't tell if they apply to my aircraft or not. My aircraft is a 1948 170 with a C145-2 and the original carb that was overhauled by G&N with new float kit 666-915 in 1998. The first services bulletin is SEB0...

Re: Good Mechanic in South East Pennsylvania
Jay Shearer of Shearer Aviation at Deck Airport near Lebanon, PA. Jay did my first and second annual on my '48 after purchase about 8 years ago. A real stickler for doing it right...updated/created some missing paperwork by working with the local FAA rep. Had no problem with owner assisted annuals. ...
