Re: extended baggage?
When I was in Ontario last I was inspecting a 170a who had a extended baggage fitted. It wasn’t a STC but a bootleg but done very well. It had been done similar as a 170b would be done but the floor had been raised up to clear the cables and pulleys .a thin aluminium form ,square in shape had been ...

Re: Ammeter
George, Gary and Gene, Thank you all for your information and suggestions. I will buy a new one, as I've owned the plane for over 2 years now and have always felt uneasy about the fact the current ammeter only goes to 30 amps with a Cessna 60 amp alternator. My memory of high school electronics doe...

Re: 1949 170A flaps
I've recently purchased a 1949 Cessna 170A. A friend of mine also has a 1949. His flaps lock in the up position mine do not. if the wind is blowing from behind it will blow then down and they will spring back up, is something wrong with my flaps? Thanks, Don My ‘51 A model was the same way when I b...

I was told never to do this if you still have the old pull type starter as it negatively affects the clutch mechanism.DWood wrote:An IA I know recommends Aeroshell Plus even for Continentals as it has the additives to protect the cam and lifters.

Re: 0300A - inspecting lifters?
I have also looked at mine with a Borescope after changing oil, through the pickup screen port at the bottom of the accessory case. It’s not perfect, but does get you a good look without pulling baffling around the oil drains

I’ll be there; arriving Thursday afternoon. Last year I think I counted a total of 7 170’s. It’s a great event and should be a good turnout this year! I’ve made the last 8.

Re: Solid Axle Questions
The check can be performed simply by pulling the one upper gear bolt and disconnecting the brake line. No need to disassemble the wheel/brake/tire assembly. Then swap the gear legs and check wing height. If no change or it gets worse, swap the gear back the way it was. If the change improves the wi...

Re: Wings not even at rest
As said, check the lateral level of the plane first. Once the seat rails are level, then you can measure the wings. A water level works best so you don’t have to worry about an uneven floor. An A model strut is possible, however unlikely. I’m not sure what gear you have (early 170, ladylegs, or c-18...

Re: 170A Flap Spring Tension
Congratulations on getting an A-model…and also on figuring out this problem! However, any home-made solution to the issue will not likely have a basis of approval …. while obtaining the correct springs from Cessna will. Thanks George! At this point my mentioned solution was just a thought. I...

Re: 170A Flap Spring Tension
I was informed that the flap handle should have no more than 22 lbs of force to move handle initially and then 18lbs. My flap springs either came from aero Home Depot or aero Lowe’s . Cost was a staggering 87 cents each. [this was over 10 years ago] Couldn’t buy springs from anybody when rebuilding...
