Weight and Balance made difficult
Hello, My friend showed up at the airport with a set of scales. I jumped at the opportunity and decided to weight the plane, a standard 170A. Well I knew it had to be weighted with unusable fuel in it, so I did what I thought unusable meant. With all gears on ground (3 point attitude) drained all th...

YouTube & The Cessna 170
Hello all, There are already quite a few Cessna 170 videos on the YouTube. Perhaps we could post here the more interesting ones. My pick is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUkaSgDD9TM or type: "Cessna 170B Lands on Main Street" Remember that we need goggles and that 'its only a two se...

Re: Mags Test
Thanks for the replies, it turned out to be the harness. But I have not fixed it yet because I have not been able to find a harness here in Brazil. I found one with a straight fitting and mine has a 90 degrees elbow. I would like to ask you, if is possible to install the straight fitting in the 170 ...

Re: Mags Test
Thanks for the suggestion on the distributor, will check. What we did was to install a harness of a different 170 and the problem apparently went away. So it is the harness right? Sorry if it seems a stupid question.
Thanks,
Donovan

Mags Test
Hello all, The other day I went flying, but before that checked the mags on ground at 1700 rpm. There was only a drop of 25 in one a little more on the other, but not even 50. During flight I felt some strange vibration on the pedals and decided to check each mag in flight. Well, the left one was mi...

3 point / full flap / forward CG landings
Hello all, I am reading the book “Cessna Wings of the Worldâ€. There is a brief in the history of the development of the 170, I am sure most of you have already read it. It says that the stabilizer angle had to be changed because they ran out of elevator at 3 point / full flap landings. The other...

Cartoon drawing of a Cessna 170
Hello all,
I am looking for a cartoon drawing of a Cessna 170, does anyone have one that can be posted here? Perhaps someone would post cartoons drawings from other aircraft?
Regards,
Donovan

Weight and Balance - with pax in the back
Hello All, Last week I flew for the first time with my wife and little daughter. They both sat in the back seat, approximately 70 kg (140 Lb) combined, I weight 85 kg (160lb). I checked the weight and balance and found the CG to be forward of the aft limit. In case anyone would like to do the math: ...

Re: Altitude to turn back to the airport
Thanks, although there was not a definite answer for the question, I guess everyone aggress that ‘it depends’. I was worried because I am operating from a grass field inside a valley with no place to land straight ahead, I am not worried about losing the aircraft, but with the safety of myself a...

Altitude to turn back to the airport
Hello, We all know that in case of engine failure after takeoff one should land straight ahead, but at some point there is enough altitude to turn around back to the airport. I was experimenting with my 170A and found that it takes around 250 feet to turn around (180°). I did this about 2000 feet a...

Hilltop, I live in São Jose dos Campos, Brazil, (airport code SBSJ) which is about 50 miles from São Paulo City (12 million people). Flying here varies greatly, if you fly close to a big city then you have approach, control areas, towers, so you have to act accordingly. But if you are in the other...
