Re: Tachometer inop / irregular
I had a jumpy tach, even after sending it in for an overhaul. Tried all the lube tricks, and then ordered a new cable from Aircraft Spruce. That didn't solve it. The plastic cased cables had too much binding from the curve needed in routing. Univair sells a metal cable, similar to the original. I or...

Re: Flight Review Preparations
I'll throw my .02 in. I'm a CFI for over 25 years now. I don't work for a flight school, and haven't for a very long time. About the only thing I use the CFI for is BFR's or IPC's (I don't teach primary or instrument). 100% of the bfr's I do are in someone else's airplane. The last one I did was in ...

Re: Panel refurbishment - back to classic
Henrik, that's a great looking airplane. I overhauled my '50 170a panel 2 years ago. Thankfully I had all the original pieces, but it was still a pita. The overlay's are almost impossible to re-create out of aluminum. I made a mold of mine, so I suppose you could make one from fiberglass. There's a ...

This is great, Brian!
Can you share your final cut file? You did a great job getting all the cuts lined up

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A
This is immensely helpful - thank you very much for sharing! I just ordered the router bit you suggested as well. No problem. It took me a bit to figure out how to make all the colors work out. What I did was to paint the acrylic the base color (maroon, in my case), and then laser etch the paint (m...

Here's the svg I created for my laser engraver. Also attached is the non-reverse version, which has the holes marked. Between the two of them you should have enough to cobble together yours https://www.dropbox.com/s/fh12fm4cx6vjlwd/throttle%20panel%202020%20v2.svg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ewd4...

Re: What’s my 170 worth
GAhorn, how did you come up with the value for the engine? I just overhauled mine, and now have 12 hours on it. Might have to upgrade to a 182 next year, so I'm curious about values as well. They seem to be going up.

Re: Who’s still using a C145?
I just did a field overhaul on my 1800hr c-145. 70 year old crank was in near perfect condition. Case failed overhaul, though, with a crack. Even at 1800 hours it ran fine - just leaked a good amount of oil and looked old. I can't notice a difference in power between the old and now overhauled engin...

Re: Engine data plate obliterated
FWIW, I sent my c-145 case off for overhaul and it was rejected. I bought a ‘new’ case, which arrived with no data plate. A few days later the data plate from my rejected case arrived in a small envelope usps. Not knowing what to do, I called the overhaul company, who told me the case is just a part...

Re: Coin mat flooring (moved from Mx Library)
I put the Loincoin (space grey) on my 170, and I love it. I used the carpet as a cutting template and just laid it in place. It’s dense and heavy enough that it doesn’t move. I can easily peel it back for inspections when needed.

This is great.
I've got a 170a just down the road at W16. For years I've jealously watched people flying the skagit river. If I could, I'd love to chew on your ear about it.

Re: Carpet or Vinyl for a floor covering
I redid my interior this winter, including the vinyl 'dot' flooring. It's call Loncoin, made by Lonseal. I ordered it through an outfit in CA. Color is space gray. I think I ordered 7 feet (it comes wide, so you can trim the excess and double it up in the aft area). Was on the fence about it for a w...

170a Lower Window Strap/strip replacement
Hey all - I'm planning to replace my windshield this winter. Unfortunately the lower windshield strip will need to be replaced (someone at some point in history got a little carried away in paint removal and ground the aluminum too thin a a few spots). I can't seem to find anyone who sells or fabric...
