Re: ADS-B
It isn't very clear, but I believe that AC is mostly written for the benefit of companies trying to get their ADS-B equipment certified. Customers wishing to claim their rebate just need to make a 30-minute flight in "rule" airspace.

Re: ADS-B
A ground speed of 15 knots or greater for ten seconds triggers "Air Mode" in the Appareo ESG. They've thought about raising this threshold, but don't have any plans to do it at the present, according to Appareo Support. This failure is only a concern if you're trying to qualify for the FAA...

Re: ADS-B
I failed my first flight test. It seems 28 min. does not count. Second test flight was all green. Dick Bryant 54 170B N2704C Appareo ESG units have been failing with an "Air on Ground" error. Mine did. The problem is, if you taxi a little too fast, the ESG thinks you've taken off, and sta...

Did you have to do anything about the "Air on Ground" errors? Or has Appareo updated their software to fix this?rickyricky2 wrote:.... Test passed and I am now waiting for my $500 check from big brother. Yahoo

Re: Dumb Question- Windscreen
They say they will custom fabricate per customer request: http://www.fadodge.com/windshield-v-braces/
Many 170s have these. It's certainly worth calling them.

Re: ADS-B
Sporty's will sell you a cooling unit for your iPad to prevent this condition. I have a friend who liked the idea, but he is building one himself for tons less cost. Thanks, Frank, I didn't know about those. I don't regard the iPad as essential equipment yet, so I might not go this route. If I live...

Thanks, Miles! I'll see if it's still there.cessna170bdriver wrote:...

Re: ADS-B
After the second flight in my Swift with the Appareo ESG, I've qualified for the rebate. The first flight produced "Air on Ground" failures in the PAPR report, which means that the equipment was erroneously sending "in flight" messages while it was still on the ground. I was taxi...

Re: ADS-B
My Swift is in the shop now, getting the Appareo ESG installed. That seemed to be the cheapest option because I could reuse my existing transponder antenna with new RG400 coax, but I had to install an external GPS antenna. (I don't have a certified GPS in the plane.) The ESG fits in the same space a...

Hehee! Yeah, I get that. OTOH, I'm told my Prius has more lines of code in it than a 747, and I haven't seen a glitch yet that I was aware of.Aryana wrote:.... The fact that his Cessna doesn't have a single semiconductor or line of code keeping it in the air is what he loves about it.

Re: Flying Car Again
The biggest hurdle for me would be to get in an aircraft with no pilot. We might someday see a two- or four-seater quadcopter with a full-time autopilot, where you just tell it where you want to go. It senses proximity to obstacles and other aircraft, and avoids them. It knows how to find a designa...

Re: iPad Mini's
That's a good question, Dave. I don't use the attitude display much at all, and I've only really looked at it in level flight. Haven't done any hood work with it. Swifts are very responsive, and you don't have to turn the wheel very far to get a pretty good roll rate going -- so I don't think it wou...

Re: iPad Mini's
It's not a 170, but I have this setup in my Swift. Despite the reflection of hangar ceiling lights in the photo, I never get any glare or visibility problems on the screen in flight. I'm using it with a Stratus ADS-B receiver.

Re: Wheel Landings 170
In a wheel landing with full flaps, I always found I needed a surprising amount of throttle in order to keep the nose down for the landing. Some types, like my Swift, "prefer" the wheel landing, and some pilots are more comfortable landing that way. I personally never thought it was necess...

Re: ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS
I have this problem in my O300-powered Swift with a Delco-Remy generator and Zeftronics controller. I believe the controller is seeing a spike in voltage while the engine starts and the generator gets going, and it has logic in it to turn off the voltage to the field winding. I've learned to start t...
