It isn't very clear, but I believe that AC is mostly written for the benefit of companies trying to get their ADS-B equipment certified. Customers wishing to claim their rebate just need to make a 30-minute flight in "rule" airspace.

A ground speed of 15 knots or greater for ten seconds triggers "Air Mode" in the Appareo ESG. They've thought about raising this threshold, but don't have any plans to do it at the present, according to Appareo Support. This failure is only a concern if you're trying to qualify for the FAA...

Sporty's will sell you a cooling unit for your iPad to prevent this condition. I have a friend who liked the idea, but he is building one himself for tons less cost. My Swift is in the shop now, getting the Appareo ESG installed. That seemed to be the cheapest option because I could reuse my existing transponder antenna with new RG400 coax, but I had to install an external GPS antenna. Hehee! Yeah, I get that. OTOH, I'm told my Prius has more lines of code in it than a 747, and I haven't seen a glitch yet that I was aware of.

It's not a 170, but I have this setup in my Swift. Despite the reflection of hangar ceiling lights in the photo, I never get any glare or visibility problems on the screen in flight. I'm using it with a Stratus ADS-B receiver.
