Re: Exhaust System
Thanks Bruce. Another reason to look carefully under the hood from time to time! The thought of a cracked or broken intake riser next to that hot exhaust commands respect....

Re: Water In Fuel Tanks
in 50 years, only once have I had trouble, and only a couple of times have i found any traces of water in sumping an airplane. BUT--all of those cases were C150 or 172s. The worst was a 1970's ferry flight in a late model 150 that sat outside for maybe 6 months without having been flown...tanks full...

Re: Exhaust System
BTW, the new muffler is a PMA'd part, not an overhaul.

Re: Exhaust System
The new muffler arrived today...looks great for $392.00 There is very little space between intake and exhaust risers...I noticed today that the clamps on exhaust have been rubbing into the intake risers, and there is some noticeable wear on the intake risers. The plane has the later model clamps wit...

Re: iPad Mini's
The iPads with cellular radios have built in GPS...which in my experience are good enough for vfr use. If you get one without the built in gps, you will need an external gps or adsb receiver but will get a more accurate position and other benefits with adsb. I have a 32 gb mini that I use with Garmi...

Re: Exhaust System
An update--my muffler was not repariable, so a new one is on the way from AWI. They thought they had the seals (although at about $150 each including core charge!!) but turns out they did not have any. They are working on PMA for replacements, though. Looking forward to the "new muffler".....

Exhaust System
11A is in for its first annual since I purchased it...a few surprises along the way. Tube from L muffler to carb heat box had quite a bit of exhaust residue in it...which led to the discovery that the shroud seals are missing on both mufflers. I now need 4 each 0550157-9 and 1 each 0550157-30 and 05...

Re: New strobe options
I bit the bullet and did the Whelen LED strobe/nav light combo. Had to run extra wire for 12v to strobe at each position, and a wire to cause all to flash together. Works great--probably a bit less install time than separate strobe lights, and with LED landing lights, a big drop in night current dra...

Re: New tachometer questions
I note reports below of bad tach cables...I was about to order a replacement from Aircraft Spruce. Before doing this, does anyone have experience with who is the best supplier? Or is it "take your chances"?

Re: New tachometer questions
Wouldn't you know--the day after calling Keystone re OH of altimeter and tach, my tach packs it in! It must have been listening on the phone.... The current tach was installed in the 60's, and has I believe incorrect markings. From the operating limitations it seems green arc of 2200-2450, yellow of...

Re: Altimeter
Your advice re Keystone is on-target. They can replace ANY dials, and if requested will use paint that matches the color of the glow-in-the-dark paint. They will return any radium dials/pointers to owner, or can send for safe disposal (around $150-200!) Turn around on the altimeter should be a coupl...

Altimeter
The altimeter on 11A will have to be replaced or OH'd at annual. It is probably the original...the Kollsman knob is at 6:00. Any idea where I can get a replacement? I am assuming OH will be problematic since I think it has luminous markings. Does anyone have experience with this issue? Thanks!

Re: ADS-B Out Mandate: Options
I just put GDL84 with Flightstream Bluetooth link in 11A--it works like a charm and did not require upgrade to the existing transponder. I use Garmin pilot on iPad for display and charts. The iPad is displaying WAAS GPS data, and makes a terrific moving map. Without a panel mount GPS, I am limited t...
