Re: VGs and 8.00-6 vs 8.50-6

I bought my plane with 6.00 x 6's, then went to 8.00 x 6's, then.....went to 8.50 x 6's with the Dodge Letter for approval. My opinion is if you are landing on pavement a lot with the occasional grass strip and/or Off Airport, the 8.50's with tread work very well indeed and are about the perfect siz...

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Failure

Why no dust covers ? And a touch of grease. As said in a previous statement , I used heat shrink over my universal joints and this was done about 6 years ago and due to this discussion i have checked them out very recently and they are as good as the day I refitted them . The control cable chain ne...

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Failure

I ended up ordering my U-Joints from Yingling aviation. They stated they get theirs from the Cessna warehouse, there were 18 of them in stock. Mine came with a manufacture date of 2015 on them. I had to order the bolts and nuts separately as they did not come in a kit. He looked up the bolts and the...

George,

I agree with you on the routing. So far only grass strips, but the hoses are a future project to reroute.

Re: Exhaust smells

Yes, you are correct.

I do know about the drain holes, generally in front of the bulkheads. I utilized those when I first bought the plane and was washing all the AZ dust out of the tail. These are, I believe, some old antenna holes, slightly larger.

Re: Exhaust smells

Because I have been a Firefighter as well as a Paramedic, I was suspicious of the orange dot detector that was in the plane when I bought it. So I purchased a Sensorcon CO detector like we use at work. Initial readings showed CO as high as 170-180 in the cabin, mounted on the pouch on passengers sid...

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Failure

Well, that is interesting.

I just called McFarlane to order a couple and they told me they were out until February, so have a couple coming from Yingling. I would hope they might have a different manufacturer source. Or at least a different batch.

Deere 1450, If I may be allowed to endorse Jughead, you will not find a better 170 specific Instructor in the Region. You will learn more about flying your 170B from Jughead than you ever thought possible. I have used him for many hours of instruction and will continue to use him in the future. Bill

As an after thought I thought you might like to see the results. Dark night outside my hangar with no surrounding lights. Taxi aimed at ground, landing focused distance.

Re: One Landing Light or two?

thumb_IMG_1755_1024.jpg I went with the Alpha Beam LED PAR36 Landing and Taxi light. Same bulb for both. 5000 hour life. Not inexpensive, but not as expensive as some. I've been told they are extremely bright in the daytime, where I use them for collision avoidance in the high traffic areas under o...

Re: Hello from New Member in Oregon

Brian.Olson Our Aircraft are nearly siblings...only 14 units apart. My serial number is 19730  I have welcomed Terri to the group already offline. The plane she bought was one I looked at for many months while I was getting myself in a position to buy, so when I saw the picture I recognized it...

Re: climb prop question

George, Possibly I misinterpreted your question, but top of page 5 lists the 1A175DM prop for O-300 engines of 145hp and 2700rpm. It is the Seaplane prop and the prop in the Kenmore STC for wheeled 170's. And what I am using on my aircraft. If I misunderstood your question to Bruce, my apologies. Bill

Re: Hello from a new owner

Brian,

Welcome! My 170 is also my first Airplane ownership experience as well. Our planes are very closely related it seems. Mine is N5776C and Serial# 19730. Also a '50 170A. They are great planes and I think you will enjoy yours when you are endorsed and flying it regularly!

Best,
Bill
