Re: Insight on panel
It looks like some of the faces are not originally black. The seem to be a light beige or tan. Is this correct? If so, were all like this or only some? Are the dials and numbers themselves supposed to be white? or is the off white correct? I am not well versed on the history of the 170's yet as I g...

I am pretty sure I have a few NOS receptacle's and brackets for a L19 in my hangar. I am not sure of the part number but I could take some pictures if you think it would be helpful. If you are interested, Send me a PM.

Re: Wing root fairing stripped hole repair
That is the style of Tinnerman that I slid between the skins. It worked great I just had to grind it a little bit to remove the tang.GAHorn wrote:I don’t have a pic but saw a solution to this using https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... -00364.php

Re: Wing root fairing stripped hole repair
We had the same problem on our '56 172. I was able to slide a normal Tinnerman between the lower wing skin and rib. You will need to grind off the little upward tang on the inside end of the Tinnerman to allow it to fit. It is not a perfect solution but it works.

Re: 1948 170 Tailwheel Bushing Replacement
The '48 170 tailwheel set up looks very similar to the 120/140 series. In the 120/140's, that bushing is indeed rubber. When we rebuilt the spring stack on my 120, we ended up using a small piece of rubber 3/8" ID fuel line for the bushing. I hope this helps.

Black Hawk down in Minnesota
Yesterday, Minnesota lost 3 National Guard Soldiers in a tragic helicopter accident. The Black Hawk was on a maintenance test flight when it went down 9 minutes after taking off. The 3 crew members that were on board were killed in the accident. The names of the crew members have not yet been releas...

Re: Wing strut mounting hardware needed
Although I can not lay my hands on them right now, I KNOW I have a few of them in my 120/140 parts stash. You will have to give me a few days dig them up. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Re: Push Rod Tube Leaks
I have had good luck stopping the leaks just by rotating the fingers of the clamp, or the screw part of the hose clamp, to the top. With them on top, you seem to have more even clamping pressure on the bottom where the oil runs. The clamps seem to create a slight pinch where they come together and c...

Re: Tail wheel spring
If memory serves me, on the later 120/140's at least, the small spring goes on the top of the stack with the bent end facing up.... The 170's may be different though.

Re: Engine Ticking?
This may sound silly but, is there any chance there was a seatbelt or a purse strap hanging out of the door? That happened to me once while flying a 120. On climb out, I thought that I may have heard some kind of ticking. I swore it sounded like a light engine tick. Like you, I decided to abort the ...

If Kyle's leads do not work out, I know of an IA just south of there (KFBL) that works for $40 an hour, I think. PM me if you are interested in his contact info.

Re: Ragwing fuel cap seals
Since I am from the 120/140 world, I am not completely versed on the 170 ragwing fuel caps. I assume they are like the ragwing 140's. If that is the case, a tuna fish can, painted red, fits perfectly over the cap to prevent rain water from entering the tank.

Can you tell me where you found your fenders/mud flaps? I have a '59 150 Taildragger project that I would love to put them on.
Thanks
