Re: IO-360 crank in O-300
Does this mean you could use a constant speed propeller with the IO-360 crank?

IO-360 crank in O-300
I heard a rumor that an IO-360 crank will work in an O-300. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: Starter
Is your soft-start system or plans for it available? I like the idea and would be interested in trying it.

Re: Fuel Gauge Removal in 170A
Remove the four screws and the gauge should come out. It may take a little coaxing as it will most probably be a bit stuck from being on there for seventy years. The whole thing, float and all, comes out through the hole with the gauge. You can get a new float from Aircraft Spruce. I believe it’s th...

Re: Minor mod to windows
Thanks Bruce, you’re the man! I looked at spruce first but couldn’t find it. Of course that doesn’t mean it’s not there. What it means quite often is that I don’t know how to search their particular website... I think the stress factor comes into play when a rivet contacts the opposing side of the h...

Re: Door locks
Those locks do bring to mind teats on a bore hog, but I wish I had a key that would fit mine. Yeah, that’s partly what prompted me to change mine. I got a pair of locks, keyed alike from my local locksmith for under $20. They’re much easier to change out with the door on your workbench, shiny side ...

Door locks
One has not truly lived until he/she has changed out the door lock on a Cessna 170! And then I think, why bother? The hinge pins are on the outside of the door...

Yes Bruce, I use 120 grit, it works great. It’s another one of those products I wish I’d discovered long ago!

Re: Minor mod to windows
Louie, that is a very slick mod, and nicely done. It's the best window mod for the 170 I've seen. When you have a chance, do you mind posting more details, like part numbers and sources, dimensions, etc.? I think that a number of us might like to piggyback on the knowledge and experience you acquir...

Re: Minor mod to windows
Bruce, I agree, the hinge is the weakest link in this chain. When I realized this, I paid close attention to the hinges as I worked and found mine to be in great shape. For added strength I used countersunk 1/8" stainless pop rivets. My intention is to add window hinge inspection to my routine ...

Re: Minor mod to windows
With the original window latch disconnected, the window will "fly" in just about that position with no adverse effects to the window. What was your reason for modifying the window like that? Pictures? Ventilation? My reason for doing that was primarily for cross ventilation on a steamy da...
