Re: Flap Handle Button Stays Depressed
Luckily my 48 has not had the problem. I did have it happen on my VW bug emergency (hand brake)brake years ago. On that one, the plate with the position detents just flipped too far and I had to dismantle it and put it in proper position. Then, to never snap push the button again. Was a simple disma...

Re: Proper gear legs on my '48 170
I have a 48 ragwing since 1976. It had gear legs with the hole drilled through each to fasten the clamp for the brake line. I was told long ago that they were known to have failed many times over the years for 48's. I heeded the warning and bought some "A" legs from John Benham. They are s...

Re: 250W Landing Light Bulbs
Gents, My ragwing still has the 250 watt motor down light in the left wing. I'll check to see if the bulb is a GE4313 I do have a spare bulb in the hangar and I believe it is the same as the one in the plane. I have learned how to restore operation of the old sticky "motor down landing light&qu...

Re: 1948 strut tie down ring
Gary & Karl, Thanks so much for a fast response. I did look at a tiedown for the later model 172 I saw at a local FBO that was in for annual. It is nothing like my straight threaded shaft piece. If you find one at Sacto, it needs to be 1 3/4 inches of threads to be ideal. Call me on my cell if y...

Re: How long have you owned your 170?
I bought my 48 rag in 1976 (38 yrs ago) for $4,000 I really don't think I need any other plane. Hoping to join the Octagenerian Club in 10 years and still have the 170. I've been as far as Guadalajara Mex, Rhode Island, Talkeetna Ak. etc Duane Shockey (San Diego)

Re: Tailwheel axle
To responders. Thanks for your input. Still nobody who can confirm if I got them from a club member, and I can't remember where and when I gotem. Maybe I'll remove em and take some better photos so you fellas can get a better idea of what I have. The tow bar does fit "reasonably" snug. Dua...

Jim Bryan, This is a test for me to use this site. Haven't done much of it. I have the 48 system on my plane and will look at it tomorrow to let you know what I have. I believe mine is the blue aluminum tee. I'll let ya know. I do have the electric fuel pump. Duane Shockey

carb air box diverter
Thanks to all of you for your responses. I got two recommendations to expert repair places for carb air boxes. Maybe they also work on carb air diverters also. I really want to open this one myself if possible. I really wonder how wide the spot weld will be where the two surfaces meet. I plan to riv...

CarbHeatDiverterBox
My 48 has a carb heat diverter box, (not carb air box) with 4 outlets for scat tubing to attach to. Inside is a flopper on a hinge that has come loose. I will need to break the spot welds to split it to do the repair and installation of the flopper or get another from somebody who has the entire uni...

seat belts
I got tired of reading all the responses, so I don't have a total education of what the others might have offered. I have a brand new set of 4 belts that I bought in 1988 and never used. They are dark brown. They have been in a clean box all this time. Question is, does the 10 year rule that is ment...
