Re: C-145 Accessory Case on O-300D
Thanks guys. I guess I will have to take a look at the bolt patterns next time I get out to the hangar. I already found the appropriate 6 bolt prop and purchased the STC for installing the o300d motor....didn’t really think about how changing the accessory case would effect that. Maybe I’ll just sti...

Re: Color scheme O-300B
I'm just starting an engine rebuild project as well and will be painting in the original scheme. I was planning on painting the case dark grey and the cylinders black. How have you folks gone about prepping the case? Primer? Any suggestions for the black paint? I have heard lots of different ideas b...

C-145 Accessory Case on O-300D
Could you install a C-145 Accessory Case on an O-300d? I was able to get a newly overhauled O-300D, but I would like to be able to keep my current pull starter setup and I have no need for a vacuum pump. Has anyone else done this? The new motor was overhauled a while ago and I am pulling it apart an...

Death of a great American

Re: AZUSA tailwheel tires
DEM, Totally agree about not cutting corners with critical parts, but everything I have heard and experienced with the Aero Classics hasn't been that great. I have had two tailwheel failures in the last year on the 170. The tailwheel on my 120 has lasted for almost 8 years and is still going strong....

AZUSA tailwheel tires
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/tailwheeltires4.php?clickkey=184928 Has anyone used these tailwheel tires? I was about ready to buy a new Aero Classic tire and tube but happened to look for cheaper alternatives and found these. I have always gone for the Aero Classics in the past but w...

http://www.norcalflightcenter.com Norcal Flight Center just recently opened at Lincoln Regional Airport outside of Sacramento CA. Our field has been without a flight school for a while, so it's great that Chris Braun (the owner) took the initiative and started this thing. I am one of the tailwheel C...

Re: I had a bad day in Buffalo
What a bummer! Good news is that you are ok and the plane doesn't look that bad. Given the circumstances it seems you handled it about as good as you could.

Onewinglo- If it were me, I would reverse the tie down bolt. You will ding up all the new paint with tie down chains rubbing on it. (Air Repair also told me over the phone to put it in with the ring on the bottom) Your IA might disagree, but I would swap it around.

Re: Soldering Help
Thanks for the pointers. This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I used a lot of flux and was able to heat everything up enough to get some solder in the seam. Didn't take much.

Soldering Help
The wire on the back of my generator fuse holder is loose. It's soldered onto the back of the fuse holder and has been that way for 65 years. I want to re-solder it back on and not screw anything up in the process. Is it as simple as taking my cheapo HF soldering iron and heating up the connection a...

Don't trust your tach when doing the static test. Get an optical tester to make sure are spot on. I was really worried about not making static until I tested it with the optical tach and found my mechanical tach was 150 rpm off.

Re: OIL
Our local EAA chapter worked out a discount with the local supplier (Ramos Oil). I think we got a 15% discount. They were more than willing to work with us for a bulk rate.
