Re: Lady legs basis for approval?

FWIW, using the uncomplicated method I installed them in my '48 and would never change back.

Keep fighting, Butch. You've come too far to give up now. If you can find an A&P/IA to supervise your work, you're golden. Soldier on!! Dave

Re: Hartiwg (Monarch) Fuel Caps on a Ragwing

The FAA will not accept DER paperwork from another aircraft. I've argued the point for the last year and am to the point where I need to find a DER of my own. Doesn't look like anyone here has a name, so I'll start looking at the list.

Re: Hartiwg (Monarch) Fuel Caps on a Ragwing

I submitted a very thorough proposal, complete with drawings and a DER report from another ragwing owner who, based on that report, received an approved Form 337 from the FAA. Bottom line: No DER, no approval (of any kind).

Thx. The FSDO will do a field approval, but not w/o a DER.

Re: Hartiwg (Monarch) Fuel Caps on a Ragwing

Hartwig/Monarch premium fuel caps are still in production. Does anyone know a DER who operates in the Pacific NW?

I used WD40 at Johnson Creek last summer to free up a stuck exhaust valve while performing a partial rope trick. Don't leave home without it!

Re: Glareshields

What a coincidence! I just removed the Selkirk fiberglass version from my '48 C170. It's in good condition, trimmed and ready to install. Available at 60% of new + shipping.

Re: 4 tanks in a 1948 170 ragwing

FWIW, the Seattle FSDO just rejected my proposed 337 for a fourth fuel tank using the Rex Labrie paperwork. The inspector said that while my 337 looked great, the FAA's new policy is that any mod to the fuel system requires data from a DER. So, if anyone gets an approval without involving a DER, ple...
