8:00 tire problems

So what about running the retreads. I love em. been running them on King Air 200 for 15 years. Have em on the 170 also. For the price of a squishy side wall tire, you get the beefy side wall Goodyears with a longer living tread. Life exspected to be about 25-40% longer than new. The retail price for...

Seems I remember some talk from a prop smart kinda guy, that when you go about re-pitching, the numbers are not true. They can't get a true "47", or "51" like comes out of the factory. They can only try to get the same pitch along the length of the blade. May explain some of the ...

I see from one of your earlier posts, that you flew to OSH. That may go a long way toward the 51% out of state for the first six months rule.

california tax

You can leave the aircraft outside the state for the first 90 days. Or fly it outside the state for 51% or greater for the first 6 months, or put it under Pt. 135
If you are very close to a state border, you mite have to go across the border for your hamburgers.

I believe you will find it in the Advisory Circulars. Because you are Car3, you don't have to comply with 25.853. I remember seeing it one time, but don't have it in front of me right now. I'll try to research it tomorrow.

prop position

I don't have the books at home with me right now, But I do recall reading an early S.I., S.L., or S.B. about the reclocking of the prop blades for smoother ops. i will look it up tomorrow, to get the wording correct.

fuel selector valve

I just changed mine out do to leaks in off position. Not sure of the P/N coming out, but it didn't have any of the balls to open and close ports. The "direct" replacement part was far from it. The shaft looking up is a "D" shape. Had to adjust the look just a bit with a file. Als...

alor TCP

Thanks for the reply George. Sounds like I should put my last can of TCP on E-Bay!
And I do the hockey-pockey, along with the MMO matra when I put it in my car.
I always heard that the mystery in the name is because of the mystery in why anybody would buy it.

Alcor TCP

So, what about that Alcor TCP? We are running it with great success. The plugs look just great and no valve problems so far. Is the TCP really needed in the 170? Not that I would really put in an unapproved fluid from a red can, but say I did, does it do away with the need for the TCP? I do run the ...

I mentioned a week ago about the possiblity of going into the Primary catagory. It seemed like the best of both worlds. You get to do the maintenance, and possibly tinker around with different mods. and still not have all the restictions of going experimental. I have not had the time to research tha...

landing gear/ gearbox info

I had read somewhere that it was not uncommon, in a bad groundloop for the gearleg to come up thru the floor and pin the pilot in the wreckage. That was the basis for my decision to install the P.Ponk kit. I gueess if it comes down to sacrificing the airframe for the safety of the pilot, the airfram...

landing gear/ gearbox

Having just installed the kit, I can't imagine where somebody came up with the idea that it doesn't take care of the sideloads. The kit is VERY stout. Adding 6 bolts in shear, to the original ONE bolt in tension is a great idea. That gear leg ain't going nowhere, nohow, notime. There are my thoughts...

I think the P.Ponk website should be required reading. Learn a lot about the gear attachment. It didn't take me long to order the kit. It seems like a bargin at $225.00 I am working on my boss's sons aircraft. He is learning to fly in the 170. It seemed like a pretty good insurance policy to beef up...

adjustable props?

I see that it is possible to take the aircraft into the Primary category by STC process. Once it is in Primary, the owner does the maintenance. But does the aircraft still have to have an annual insprction? If not, it would seem a way to "play around" with different ideas, much the same as...
