Re: Low Compression on 2 Cylinders
Turning the prop opens the exhaust valve so of course you are going to have air escape with the valve open. A compression ck is done with the cylinder at top dead center of the compression stroke not while turning the prop, that is because both valves are closed at Top dead center. If it leaks when ...

Re: Rudder weight ?
Butch, I believe that is correct for the 170B but you indicated your plane is a 170A. I don't believe the 170 and the 170A have the balance weight in the elevator. I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Cracked Spinner Bulkhead
What type of spinner do you have? Is it the one with a rear bulkhead and plug that centers it using the hole in the front of the prop hub? How much play is there between the plug and the hole in the prop. If it has play and can wobble, that could cause a crack. Most likely you have a dynamic prop ba...

Re: Drone Day
I was kidding of course but I was thinking about the airspace over your property up to 400 ft, where your idiot neighbors would likely use to spy on you. They do make a drone that can capture another drone with a net. I am sure that would be cost prohibitive though. I am sure there will be plenty dr...

When does drone season start? I can shoot them down for target practice if they are in my airspace, right?

Re: ? if '56 172 wings will work on a '51 170A
I think what they meant was if a C-145 crank requires replacement, new 8 bolt cranks are no longer available. You don't have to replace any crank if it is servicable. If you have an 8-bolt that isn't servicable it may be hard to find a servicable replacement. Installing a 6-bolt crank of course mean...

Actually he mentioned in his first post that he purchased a 170A. Slips with full flap are not prohibited on the A model

Crimp only should work fine. I have only seen solder used on small butt connections.

Re: Wasps!
I had an experience with these winged devils a few years ago that I won't soon forget. I was removing my engine cowling and spotted two wasps starting a new nest. I figured that two wasps couldn't do much to me so i just swatted their nest away. Soon after, I caught a glimpse of one of them starting...

Re: Want to re-fabric metalized 170
Consider this, when your wings were metalized, it required an STC and was considered a major alteration. Returning it to fabric will also be a major alteration. It will also require approved data that addresses the issues bruce brought up, what to do with the drilled ribs etc. This seems like an eno...

Re: Annual inspection and options
When you have someone perform an annual inspection you are not obligated in any way to let them perform necessary repairs. Most people do it this way as it is usually more convenient for everyone involved. Most people are under the false impression that the aircraft has to be airworthy for the inspe...
