Re: Wish I woulda ...
No, spend winters in Hong Kong, summers in Canada. I did fly the 170 quite a lot this year. There’s not many hours on the aircraft so when the cable is installed I’ll have to check to see why the cable broke.

Re: Wish I woulda ...
My search found this threat, my problem,I believe, is a little unusual. The cable for the AmSafe inertia seat stop has broken at the cable to seat handle end.
Any suggestions on replacement or repair would be greatfully accepted.
Thank you.

Re: Importing from Canada
As was mentioned, good aircraft do not stay on the market long. I bought two aircraft sight unseen. One from Trade a Plane and the 170 from the Canadian Owners and Pilots classifieds. Not a recommended procedure as anyone will advise but I did due diligence with the owners, previous owners and a pre...

Re: BAS shoulder harness recommendations
Gentlemen, thank you for your responses.
Some considerations were made that helped me make my choice. It's nice to call upon the experience of the members to make a researched decision.

BAS shoulder harness recommendations
I will be purchasing the BAS inertia reel shoulder harness for my 170B. They offer the standard buckle where the shoulder straps are permanently attached to the lapbelt and the utility buckle where the shoulder straps are placed on the buckle when securing. Currently I have the utility buckle but th...

Re: Strange 170
The 104's wingspan without tip tanks was 22 feet. The ailerons and flaps were actually rather small. Some of the super 8 video of my era flying it in Germany are on YouTube. In some footage you can see the ground crewman checking the BLC airflow on the flaps when they are in land flap position. He's...

Re: Strange 170
I had the pleasure to fly Kelly Johnson's masterpiece, the CF 104 for 6 years. It had two flap settings, takeoff and land. Land flap had BLC which used hp air off the compressor to blow on the flaps from the flap hinge. Approach speed flapless was 230 kts and touchdown was 195 kts. With land flap an...

Re: 170 in China
Ryan, I believe that's me. My 170 is hangered at Welland, Ontario near Niagara Falls. I get back to fly it once a year but with retirement on the horizon will fly her more. Asia is still not geared for general aviation. Hong Kong has a flying club based at the PLA base Sek Kong. They have 3 or 4 fix...

Re: Charging system question
Richard, I had a similar situation with my RV8 alternator. Turned out to be worn bearings causing too much movement of the armature.

Re: Aviation Museums
Twenty years ago I visited the Thai Airforce museum at Bangkok's old international airport. The aircraft were not restored for the most part but extremely interesting. There was a Japanese aircraft from WW2 that was the last known example in the world. The Thai Airforce was practicing for a display ...

Re: Photo Album
Yes Miles, I stand corrected. Thinking about it Pederson was his name. I write this from Hong Kong and the logs are in Niagara Falls so I can't reference the books. The owners have taken care of the plane well. I met Mr Golbert, a previous owner, by chance when I picked up the aircraft in Manitoba. ...

Re: Photo Album
Miles, I purchased C-FINE last year from Glenn Dowd at Glenboro, Manitoba. It was imported from the US in 1987 by a Gentleman named Peterson and based in Vancouver for a number of years. Darryl Golbert from Portage la Prarie, Manitoba owned it for quite a number of years. There was an owner between ...
