Thanks for the kind words Richard and George. George, you are absolutely correct. LUCK was everything that day, other than me not going in to a panic and not continuing to try. The design of the plane helped in that it is a slow and dirty airplane. That gave me a few more seconds. I had less than 10...

Joe- What did the plane look like when you landed (other than the seat cushions)? Was there any damage? Has your passenger ever gotten back in a plane with you again? Or any plane for that matter? That has to be the sickest feeling I could imagine while flying, looking at the instruments all tumble...

Help Finding Copy of Story from the old 170 Site

I need some help. A good friend who is a QB, aircraft restorer, member of all types of aviation groups, has asked me to send him my story of when I first obtained my license and then went out, got on top of the clouds, and eventually had to go into the clouds and lost control of the airplane. I verb...

. . . and that Ol’Gar had left his pants and a pre-flight-training-film . . . . So, what was it like walking from the car to the FBO. Were people pointing, gawking, etc. No wonder the guy in Texas was hanging out with his buddy by the pickup vs. being over by the red airplane with two guys ...

A couple of years later I sold it! Didn't pass that info on to the new owner. I still to this day don't know who she was referring to, her boyfriend, me, or just men in general. The car was a lot of fun and could really take corners fast enough to get the excitment level up. Sold it soon after...

Gotta have those big ones heh! Around 10 years ago my neighbor had a flat in his Stingray in front of my place. I had watched him with envy tooling around in that car for a long time, and when he was working on the flat I jokingly said if you can't get any further than that in it you ought to sell i...

I have never paid over $200 for an annual inspection on a stock C-170B. This always includes the inspection only, the AD search, and a list of the discrepencies found. I personally complete a standard 100 hr. inspection (I am an A&P) and sign off the airplanes airworthiness. Any airplane that n...

Per LPM:

Bendix started making ignition switches in 1947.

Any TCM distributor should have one, or a repair kit. P/N 10-357510 might work, but be sure and check on that kit P/N, I am not absolutely sure that kit is what goes with your switch.

...I think I should clarify my statement. What I meant by Cessna not indicating the model of 170 in the graphic is that it never said anything except "170". In other words, the tail or fuselage logo from Cessna never said "170A" or "170B" as you see sometimes in the gr...

George posted a real nice article on how to restore the vents. One of the items was replacing the felt to eliminate the air leaks. I didn't do a search, and the post might have been on the old site, it sure was a good one. I followed it step by step doing my vents. Worked GREAT!
