Re: 170 Winners at Oshkosh
There were some nice 170s up there at KOSH. I went up there with full inentions of meeting as many 170 owners as I could. Unfortunately, our generator gve up on us on the last leg into Airventure. We started losing our intercom and our radios on the downwind for 27. Tim and I spent the better part o...

Re: Recommended technique for backing into tiedown spot?
We keep a big dog leash in the plane. When we put the plane back in the hangar, we wrap the leash around the top of the tailwheel where it bolts to the spring and pull the plane straight in by the leash. Simple, light, cheap. I got the idea from Spruce but was too cheap to pay the kind of money they...

Looks like it isn't up to the gear in mud. I wonder if the fire crews even tried to get into the field.

I try to be as anal as my personality will let me when it comes to the plane. I do, however, have a hatchet and I'm not afraid to used it!

Re: Recording tach woes.
I don't believe that the recording hourmeter part of the tach is required equipment....... My airplane didn't even have a recording tach when it was new. No reason not to fly it, unless your desire to have the hourmeter accurately indicate total time is greater than your desire to fly  We fle...

Re: Recording tach woes.
Just seems strange that both tachs failed in the same fashion. I guess I'll call Mitchell. I don't mind so much but I hate not being able to fly the plane while I wait on another tach with the proper hours set on it.

Recording tach woes.
We replaced our tach at annual with a new Mitchell because the hour meter in the old tach quit working. The old tach worked perfectly other than the hours quit rolling by. After a few hours of flawless operation, the hour meter on our new tach quit working Thursday. Now (before I go and start swappi...

Re: Control wheel(yoke)
Is there a special reason you would want to swap the yokes out? I'm really just curious because I like the look of the original yokes.

Re: PROP SHOP INVENTORY
As someone who used to work in the aircraft parts business, I'd guess your average small shop wouldn't carry a full selection of new props. It would tie up too much money on parts that have to many variables (pun intended) for each application. I would guess, if you were ordering a "new" p...

Hmmmm...just replace the fuel pump on my plane about two weeks ago. Am I going to have the install checked to make sure it complies?

Re: Apples to Oranges
I like apples, oranges, bannanas, watermelons, grapes, and even the occational pomegranate. When it comes to aircraft, I pretty much like them all. There is something special about the Swift though. They are beautiful planes and they speak to ya. But since I can (barely) afford one plane at a time I...

Re: Auto Gas Users
I can't say much for mogas in airplanes as I run 100LL. I can attest to the issues caused by ethanol mogas in my VWs (aircooled flat 4). In my daily driver, which is a 1967 VW bus, I have no fuel related issues. My 68 dune buggy, however, goes though fuel lines faster. They rot from the inside out. ...

Re: Does The FAA Want More Pilots
Well the I'm pretty sure Terrafugia was able to get a waiver on the GW because they needed to install airbags to make it street worthy. Maybe that will set a precedence for future GW increases on LSA planes. As to America being on the leading edge of flight...I believe those days are over. CEOs are ...
