Tunnel damage from flap handle pivot

Hi everyone, looking for a little advice. My IA found damage to the sidewall of the tunnel that houses the flap handle assembly during the annual. The flap handle bushing around the bolt has been slowly drilling its way through the sidewalls of the tunnel. This is probably because the through bolt w...

Re: Storing fuel in 55 gal drum

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead with the drum because it was cheap, acceptably safe, and I know a mechanic that is interested in it when I'm done. It's sitting on wood in the hangar with the plug loosely on. My future self will be wiser and take a joyride for a few hours before taking the plane...

Re: Storing fuel in 55 gal drum

This may sound stupid but after all this time it really hasn't dawned on me just how much fuel 37 gallons really is until your faced with having to drain it safely somewhere. I'm fortunate to have comparatively inexpensive avgas at my little airport but wondered about the logistics of basing the pla...

Re: Storing fuel in 55 gal drum

yeahhh... good point. I'm thinking I've got plenty of nicknames as it is.

Do you do anything special to prevent damage from expansion/contraction or is it just sealed up?

Storing fuel in 55 gal drum

I'm going through my to-do list from the annual and am getting ready to tackle the leaky seals on the fuel filler necks/adapters. To drain the tanks, I plan on emptying out the fuel into a steel 55 gallon drum I picked up from a local oil company. I'm only planning to use the drum temporarily, a wee...

Re: Tornado at Sun-n-Fun

What a tragedy. I'm glad it sounds like no one was seriously injured but saw a lot of classics and kit planes among the totalled in the videos on youtube.

Sounds great! I still travel there for work every now and then. Do you put the bird on skis in the winter?

Ahhh Amboy. Hands down THE best sweet rolls around. Norcal weather can't be beat but those grass strips in Minnesota were a lot of fun.

Re: Introduction N2855C

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome. I'm fairly green to all this so I'm not sure I have much to offer but I checked the "yes" box to being part of the support network. So if you find yourself in Davis (KEDU) and need a ride, quart of oil, etc keep me in mind.

Re: Introduction N2855C

Hey Jim. There is no credence to that rumor. And as far as someone placing themselves in position to establish such a coveted award well all I can say is it takes more than one vote to hold a position and should one run on that platform then perhaps the majority of members present to vote might sec...

Re: Introduction N2855C

It was really touching to have such a crowd of people show up for our departure when we closed on the plane. I'm still in contact with Wayne, a friend of the previous owner and the estate rep who was also a relative his. We had a great time hearing stories about the plane and really appreciated ever...

Introduction N2855C

Greetings 170 Association, Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone as a new member. After years with my nose pressed against the shop window of airplane ownership, months of rationalizing better uses for the money, and countless iterations of deciding what the "right mission" was exact...
