Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

There are a few rear engine mounts from 337's around for sale, even one from Acorn Welding. Usually go for about $1500.

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

In case anyone is confused by my earlier statements, I love my airplane with the extra power and the newer, modern engine. As I said earlier, I grin every time I push the throttle to the wall. I have bulled ahead against common sense, perhaps more than most, as I have utilised a significantly unsupp...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

Yeah mine easily fit under my cowl too and regarding the need for bigger fuel tanks, I have better range with the IO-360 than I did with the stock motor because of how much faster it goes. I have no doubt you could find a comparable c-180 for the same or less money than doing the conversion but a s...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

In the above comments, avoight mentions a difficulty in gettion the IO-360 inside the cowling and needing new "tin". On my conversion I reversed the top intake runner system and angle trimmed the front end of one runner. Other than that, no modifications were made to reinstall the origina...

Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

Having just completed a significantly simpler engine mod this past few years with a 220 Franklin on my 172 TD, I would say you are in the ball park, but not low for sure. All of the odds and ends add up in a hurry. A real hurry if you use new parts. All new plumbing, new controls, most of your engin...

Re: Spruce Aircraft shoulders harness

Depending on the type of flying you do the bas harnesses could be your most important upgrade. They are a real simple install and provide no restriction while reaching for the flap handle etc. Cheap insurance. I just added a David Clark "K" helmet as well for a bit more comfort while way o...

Re: STC Tailwheel 172 Conversion

I have done the Fravel conversion on my old straight tail and found a few holes in the install. There are a lot of parts missing on the material list that you find are needed when you get deeper into the C-170 IPC. They are all available for the main gearbox area from the "C" store but yes...

Re: Three Landing Gear/ Gear Box Questions

As to your second question see the PPONK website. Billet gear angles rather than extruded and an awesome beef up kit (unless you run through a serious ditch and REALLY tweak things).

Re: 800x6 cleveland wheels and brake conversion kit

So did ACS verify the "6.00 x 6 tires only" in their catalog at the bottom of the C-180 8.00 x 6 Conversion kit description was a miss-print along with the little decals on my wheels from Cleveland? Sorry I haven't followed up on this myself guys, been too busy with other paperwork issues....

Re: Aerocet 2200 floats

How are you doing with the STC??? I have been contemplating the same thing for some time. Talked to Aerocet a year or two back. They said they were working on a 170/172 approval, but could offer no time line.

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?

We would like to put 800 x 6 tires on a 170B. Are there any STC's specifically for this? If so, what wheel hub do we need? According to Transport Canada, Cleveland STC SA13GL only allows 600 x 6 tires on the Cleveland 40-97A wheel hubs. The larger 700 x 6 and 800 x 6 tires were only approved on the...

Re: C-170 Aiplanes With Cont.IO-360 Engines

Sorry BL,
You are correct about the Firewall for sure. I made an (incorrect) assumption that they used the same stepped configuration as the Hawk XP. Looks more like a C-206 set-up, with engine mount beams maybe? The cowlings looked pretty good on the C-170 though.

Re: ART Wing Extension or Horton STOL?

I'll jump in on this, with expectation of possible error of interpretations..... but I interpreted wingnut's msg/post differently. I did not imagine Del was unknowlegeable about aspect-ratio improvements... but interpreted his question as an invitation for anyone who actually has installed these mo...

Re: ART Wing Extension or Horton STOL?

I agree with the general opinion about "claims" and fully realize that that whatever the average pilot is flying today is usually "the Best". While most of these mods will change some handling characteristics of the aircraft it is up to the operator to determine if the change is ...
