Thank you George. I'll get on it in the a.m.

Rib Rudder Assembly - #1 Rudder
My '49 170a has a corrosion problem discovered by my A&P at annual. He installed a needed rudder bellcrank. He noticed two rivits came loose. Investigation led him to find beaded or sandy corrosion where the reinforcement bar meets the rib. He is looking for a 0533000-12 Rib Assembly - #1 rudder...

Assist staps
Anyone know where I can find assist straps for my 170A? Or parts to construct a pair. I've been looking, unable to locate.

Re: Voltage Regulator
FYI...here is what was found to be the cause. I guess a gremlin was the cause. The gen was pulled because the VR didn't solve the problem. The Gen Shop said it was charging as a new one. Re-installed. Used an alligator clip to the post to test amps and all ok. Installed the wires on the gen post and...

Voltage Regulator
I am getting variable charging from my voltage regulator, from 0 at flight RPM to 4 amps at taxi RPM, so I am going to replace it. I am looking for references to finding to correct replacement. (1949 170A, 145-2, original style generator). One guy wants to install a Delco from the auto store, saying...

Re: Rudder cable issue
Del sent pictures that were a great help! The cotter pin is broken. It must have been the original...not a pretty site...old rusty and bent. A little raskel to remove. The other pully side didn't have a cotter pin at all. Some of us are on the edge and don't even know it. I want to thank all of you ...

Re: Rudder cable issue
I have quite a bit to digest for the moment. To answer a couple of the questions; I did suspect a rudder return spring, both were functional, not broken; though the spring on the pilot side is newer and had been replace prior to my purchase last year; maybe this a place to look into to see if the ca...

Rudder cable issue
Yesterday, while climbing from a departure, I noticed my 170A was yawing left. No wind to speak of. Ol' 9291A has always flown straight and steady. The immedate landing was uneventful. Long story short, I found the rudder cable had slipped off the front pully and lodged between the rudder pully and ...

George, you couldn't have made this story up! I'm worried for myself...I'm 55. Will this happen to me next year?

http://hiltonsoftware.com/PressReleases.html I believe this site has info on WX works weather app for the I-phone and other smart phones. Give is a look over. I think the fee is $99.00 per year. Some day I'll be able to afford an I-phone. George, I hope this is a legal post in your view. John

Re: Headliner Installation
I use Irish Spring soap in my camper during winter storage...works great. Just peal it off the bar with knife into a short 1/2 pint container. Then, set it by where you think they might be entering. Worth a try.

Re: Oil...again?
Thank you all for your great information. I will do without the 'plus'...I was leaning that way. George, I didn't mean the chemistry wasn't important...it was just that I had read all the past great information threads on this site and the info was quite a bit to digest. Your further explination in ...

Oil...again?
I've read a lot on this site and columns refered to on this site, on the subject of engine oil. I am convinced on using a straight weight oil. Some reason, my mind has been leaning to Aeroshell...W100 or 100 W plus, W80 or W80 plus. Shell's site states the newer 'plus' prohibits corrosion for engine...

Re: Hello from New Member
Welcome Greg,
This is my rookie year with my plane and this great group. Ask away...there are a lot of years of experience on this site and no one is shy on helping anyone out.
Stop by Effingham, 1H2 if you get a chance...I'm the only one without training wheels.

Re: Tailwheel Steering Springs and Chain Kit x
I'll jump in here, rookie and all...does the chain need to be snug with no weight on the wheel, or snug when it is on the ground with the plane weight. I noticed the chain tends to get real tight when the plane weight is off the wheel after I snug it with the plane weight on the wheel. Another obser...
