Re: Landing Gear

Jim, I'll offer my opinion. I purchased my 170A and flew it for about a year with the original landing gear (PN 0541114). The landing gear worked fine, but was a bit spongy and just didn't look right to me (gear legs looked like they were splayed out). I think the engineers may have goofed when they...

Re: 2014 Calendar photos NEEDED

Doug,

I sent over a few photos of our A model for the calendar. Looks like you may have a typo in the email address you posted above.

Re: SEB07-5

Shawn, The kit for the pilots seat (SK210-174B) was $533 when I purchased it. I don't have any photos of the installation but I'll take a couple the next time I'm out at the hangar. Here's a link to the instructions so you can see an illustration of the instillation. https://support.cessna.com/custs...

Re: SEB07-5

It must be done at a repair facility. They will not allow just an A&P to install it. They want to be able to point the finger some where. I ended up paying for the stop because I could not get it to an authorized repair facility, FYI. D Doug, Your information is incorrect. I purchased the kit t...

Re: Interesting picture Paine Field from Aeronca

My hangar is right in the middle of the first photo. The field has looked like this for the last couple years with the 787's and 747-8's parked on the diagonal runway. The 777's are typically parked on the north ramp adjacent to the factory. This isn't unusual. Most of the 787's are incomplete (no e...

Re: 170A Inner Cowling: Piano Hinge Mod

Josh, Sure. I didnt take very many photos as I was working quickly to get the plane back in the air but here's what I took. I'll take some more photos next time I have the cowling off. Here's the forward mounting bracket. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af200/mekstrand/s86/baf/IMG_0255_zps19fbff...

Re: 170A Inner Cowling: Piano Hinge Mod

Bruce, Yes, the hinge pins can be pulled out through the front nose bowl. The hinge pins are first rotated and then pulled forward about an inch and a half then flexed slightly outboard (to clear the nosebowl) and pulled out. The inner baffle can swing up with the upper cowling in place but due to t...

Here's some photos of our 170A flying our boys to grandma's house. The airport (S86) is about 30 miles NE of Seattle. http://airnav.com/airport/S86. It's faster to drive the car, but not as much fun. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af200/mekstrand/s86/s862/s863/1_zps81bbf45c.jpg http://i1007.pho...

Re: 170A Inner Cowling: Piano Hinge Mod

Spduffee, I've also got a 1950 A model that had worn out baffeling. I replaced it a few years ago and substituted piano hinges just as you suggested. It has proven to work very well and is easily removed without any tools. If you have any questions or want to have a look in person send me a PM, I'm ...

Re: Loan approval complete - Now, which plane?

I've got a 1950 A Model. I installed the Cessna factory shoulder harness (service kit SK170-12C1). It was less than $200 shipped and only took a couple hours to install and doesn't require the headliner to be removed. It is a fixed harness but I'm quite happy with it. If you plan to modify the airfr...

Re: S16 Copalis State Airport

Aryana, Sounds great! Joe's right about Tillamook. It's worth the stop just to tour the Tillamook cheese and ice cream factory! The blimp hangar and museum are great and my wife loves the outlet mall they have in town. The airport is a few miles from town so you will need to rent a car or arrange gr...
