Re: Tire drag
I recently removed the wheelpants, extended axle nuts and backplates and switched from 6 x 600 to 7 x 600 tires. Ive noticed no speed loss and the larger tires may be slightly more forgiving when landing. If youre not running wheelpants the 6 x 600 just look too small. I think the 7 x 600s are a goo...

Re: Rotating Beacon Removal
just the wingtip strobes might not be legal for anti collison light coverage. I researched this when i wanted to remove my rotating beacon. I have tip strobes and a tail strobe and so was legal to remove my cabin top mounted rotating beacon

windshield issues
At some point before I bought my plane the original windshield was replaced with a so-called one piece windshield. I dont think it was installed correctly. Appears to be slightly crooked as it affects the manner in which the wing root fairing fits on the right wing . Anybody seen this? Is it safe? A...

Re: IFR certified
My 170 doesnt have venturis or gyros. Definitley performs better than with them. Liking the lower maintenance too. I have to be more careful at night and in marginal weather. Im waiting for someone to make an affordable, portable electric atitude indicator. IMO 170's get doggy when loaded down with ...

Re: avcon 180 performance stats
Its gonna be virtually identical to a 1963 Cessna P172D 'Skyhawk Powermatic' which had the geared 175 HP Continental engine and a CS prop. A google search might turn something up.

garmin 196 mounting bracket
I bought a friction [beanbag] mount for the glareshield of my 170. It came without the bracket? that holds the 196 to the mount. I think its included in the automotive accessory kit, but I dont want to buy the whole package. Where can I get this piece separately? thanks

Re: Anyone using a Garmin 95?
For reasons of simplicy I run my portable GPSs [lowrance 1000 and garmin 196] on batteries only. I understand the color units really eat batteries.

Re: Wheel Fairings
Dont move your brakes to the front. You'll have to re-route the brake lines from along the rear of the gear legs. Thats ugly and draggy, the opposite of what you want.

Re: When buying a Hanger
Is it a long term lease or a "fee simple" transaction? Any liens against it or delinquent taxes? If the guy has IRS liens against him they could attach to the property. You could be liable for real estate taxes. Are you getting a warranty deed like the one for your house?

good news for east coast pilots
The Washington, DC ADIZ shrunk a little bit. Its now sort of a modified 30 nm ring around the DC VOR. Theres even a cut-out for Leesburg, Va [Godfrey Field]. A little victory-Ill take it!
