Craig, Im not much for mods, especially mods that effect the flying characteristics but this is interesting. Do they increase the float in the flare or noticably lower the stall speed? At what speed do they take effect or can you notice them at cruise? Any climb rate improvement? Ive flown them on a...

Usually 'bad fuel' causes missing, running rough, cutting out, etc. If its really 100LL there wouldnt be any octane problems even if it was somewhat old gas, assuming you have the 145 hp engine. Does it still run smooth?

Remove your venturis and install the belt-driven vacuum pump mod. That might get you 1 mph per $1000 spent. On cross countries I run mine at 2500 rpm, that gets me about 68% at 2500 msl and about 119 mph true at light weight and in smooth air.

Get a used King 170b with a glideslope and marker beacon. If youre an IFR student you want to be able to fly ILS approaches [as well as localizer and VOR approaches]. Get a Garman or a Lowrance portable and put it on the glareshield or on the yoke-thats the cheapest and most capable way. If you have...

I wouldnt be a member if there was no website. Dont have the time to go to the conventions and the print publications are too heavy on the social and too light on the technical IMHO Im told about half the membership rarely or never visits the website-probably the long-time members mostly

interior trim paint

My 55 still has the original interior trim paint looking pretty rough. Id like to redo it in the original color. Its sort of a goldish khaki color. Either autumn rust or trooper tan according to the IPC color code. Anybody know of a modern equivalent? The factory was no help. Would a satin finish be...

Dave,
Whats a clay bar kit? Is it like rubbing or polishing compound-an abrasive? Or a cleaner of some kind?

Beautiful, original panel. George, looks like you found a compass card holder since you posted the picture on the POPULAR AVIATION photo gallery. Wag Aero teflon control bushings? Im in the process of restoring my panel back to near-original, but I dont have a glove box or a stall warning. I didnt u...

Its all here on this website. Try The Pilot Lounge page, 5th topic from the top "History of the Cessna 170". Modifying to a T can be problematic due to control yoke interference behind the panel. If you are an A&P its probably feasible. I like the original look and think theres too muc...

Anybody have the 180 hp Lycoming with the FIXED PITCH prop? It would be alot cheaper, lighter and simpler than with the CS prop and you might be able to use premium car gas. My old Cessna 175 [175 hp] would true out at 137 mph

My first thought is its got to be nose heavy, especially if its got a CS prop, check the weight and balance. Youre looking at 11 gph, pretty thirsty for standard tanks. Too many unknowns for me, Id pass
