Re: Call Signs

I have flown out of a class charlie airport for the last 15 years. Back when I used to fly my 170 I would check in as cessna XXXX and would only on occasion get asked what type. After many years the controllers knew me and I could tell them by recognizing their voices. One slow day I was lamenting t...

Re: Annual Unit Sales Volume of Cessna 170s

Just sold my 170 and bought a cub for an extra 30K. I enjoy telling people I got a more expensive plane that goes slower and carries fewer people. Non aviation types look at me like I must be crazy. The condition of the cub was slightly less than the 170. All I can figure is that the demand is much ...

Re: Angle of Incidence

Thanks wingnut. I had suspected that was the case. Alot different than the 5 degrees my cub has. Hope you had a good hunt. I remember vividly the first time I was hunting coyotes and my cell phone rang. Oh how times have changed. In this case I appreciate the intrusion of technology as I got my answ...

Re: Angle of Incidence

Ok George now you got me going. When I transitioned to the cub I was instructed to fly it just as you describe for the B model. Don't touch the trim just cut power and as the nose drops add flaps. My A model however I would cut power add flaps and add nose up trim for speed. I suspect the larger fow...

Re: Angle of Incidence

Now that you mention it I guess there was a nose up pitch movement with flap deployment on the 170 but nothing like the cub. The cub flown properly you dont notice it as much but the first couple flights was eye opening. To be clearer on the thrustline issue, if a cub and 170 have thrustlines in lin...

Re: Angle of Incidence

2 degrees makes some sense to me. While flying just above the runway at the slowest possible speed the 170A seems to be only slightly tail low as compared to my cub which is very tail low. I suspect the angle of incidence is the issue but flaps also contribute some. When you pull flaps on the 170 th...

Re: Angle of Incidence

Ok time for more info. I hate to say it but I am no longer the owner of my precious 170. I now am an owner of a super-cub. I will always hold my 1320D in my heart. When landing the supercub on a wheel landing you must be very tail wheel low to accomplish the shortest landing possible, same with the ...

Re: Jasco alternator upgrade

48 ragwing , sorry I thought you were referring to the front of the panel. Bagarre, I think the only issue is the landing light use. I am now all LED so I have so much power lightning bolts occasionally eminate from my tailcone.

Re: Air bubble of doom in gascolator!

Just read through the entire thread. What a mystery. The only thing I could come up with and I mean no offense by this but how are your piloting skills. Do you find yourself having trouble controlling the airplane. Brief periods of inverted flight could result air getting into the fuel lines. Just k...

Throttle cable replacement

After searching it appears the Mcfarland cable with adapter to keep my original door knob is the way to go. Any other experience. Appears to be expensive.
