Re: 1952 and prior Floating panel drawing
I disagree. The shape dresses it up nicely. Paint and instruments will polish it off.

Re: 1952 and prior Floating panel drawing
I have long admired Hilltop170's instrument panel. I used his method to make one for myself. I removed the panels, traced the false panel on paper, and used the shock panel to trace the hole pattern. I created a cad drawing from the paper model. I sent the .dxf file to the CNC guy and he cut the pan...

Would you email the PDF to me also, Bruce? My documentation is not complete either. Thanks.

Re: Oil Pressure and Temp Gage
I am working on my instrument panel and I really appreciate when you guys post photos of yours. Hilltop170's panel is very neat and clean and has been my favorite for awhile. The picture in this thread of Johneeb's panel is amazing. There have been others but these two stick out. Keep the pictures c...

Re: How are Generators and Alternators different?
It's a fine argument which device is "AC" and which is "DC". They both ultimately produce DC, but in common parlance the alternator is said to produce alternating "AC" and the gen "DC". This is determined by what type current is produced by the secondaries. N...

Re: How are Generators and Alternators different?
Both the generator and the alternator 'generate' electricity and produce AC current. They are both generators and they are both alternators. Development of solid-state diodes in the early '60s enabled engineers to design a new, lighter, more compact 'generator' by replacing the split ring commutator...

Re: AK fly-in buzzkill
Somebody remind me,why did we rush to alternating current generators in the first place? I don't remember having any big problems with the old DC generators & as Gahorn mentioned the DC generator has certain advantages. Alternators have the great advantage over direct-current generators of not ...

Re: Remote Compass
So, if I understand this right: Set the "bug" (the split arrow) to the magnetic course, and point the aircraft so that the difference between the bug and the compass needle is equal to the WCA. If the compass needle doesn't remain steady relative to the bug, it means the winds are differe...

Re: Remote Compass
Good point, John. It shows the plane's heading relative to magnetic north. Thanks for the correction.johneeb wrote:bpauge did you mean to say you are on heading, instead of on course?

Re: Remote Compass
The compass works fine so I won't worry about that anymore. I'll crawl back there some day and see if I can figure out exactly what it is.
Ok, George...I'll bite. Should I start worrying about my Aux Fuel Tank?

Re: Remote Compass
This probably makes no difference to the discussion, but this instrument looks like a slaved RMI to me. Is it? John The compass is fixed...no rotation. The needle shows your heading. The other pointer is adjustable via the front knob...adjust it to the desired heading. Keep the needles lined up and...

Re: Remote Compass
No slave/unslave switch. There is a power on/off switch for the inverter. The output of the inverter goes to the indicator on the panel, and a shielded cable goes from the indicator to the black box in the fuselage.Robert Eilers wrote:Is there a slave/unslave switch on the panel some where?
