I have a 170B with stock engine BUT with an 80-42 prop. The prop may make a big difference here as it allows higher RPM and more HP to develop during the takeoff run. There is no way I could operate off some of the strips and gravel bars I do without popping the flaps at the end of the take off run....

I'm I the only one who thinks it is completely ridiculous this company is charging $1200 per leg ($2400 a set) just to strip it, and tell you if it has cracks and is bent correctly? The local prop shop will do the same and even fix the prop for 850 and that is a lot more precision then a gear leg. ...

That is a nice installation and a good looking unit. However, there is no logical reason for something so simple to cost that much :( Due to the simplicity of the components and their costs that unit shouldn't (IMO) cost more than $100, but no doubt the cost of getting the STC/PMA and profit drives...

LED Alternative to Grimes Antique

Well, my Grimes rotating beacon was showing signs of distress so I looked around at the options. The Whelen LED beacon model 9052055 is one popular option but they are pretty large, almost the same size of the Grimes you are replacing. You are overthinking this. Double puck brakes are great and required for the Bush Wheels and they run fine on 800 or 850 size tires too. I have run double puck brakes on 800 size tires for years and have had no issues.
